Whats the worst thing that happened to you during install of machine

Mine was getting stuck in a disabled lift, that had a bottom plate and a 6x6 shaft for 3 hours with my Supervisor and the school Caretaker....

That was the worst day ever stuck between floors and needing the Fire Service..

Having to haul an MPC4000 over a flight of stairs with barely enough space for the machine, nevermind the 3 of us carrying it.

In the old days, a roll fed ZnO paper copier where the paper catched fire in the corona, just above a tank full of dispersant........

I can remember lifting this machine it weighs a tonne, we also let one drop and cracked the cover one time..

We also supply a solicitor firm and they are forever changing there machines around floors, The company gets good money for it but its a total pain with MC ranging from Ricoh 1055 - MP7500 and lately they got a Utax CD1455 with all the trimmings

Hauling an MX-M363N up 2 flights of stairs that were so narrow the machine was almost touching the hand rails... Unfortunately the location was a public pool as well. Didn't wind up looking so pretty by the time the client moved back to their proper location.

Taking a new, 600+ pound, $10-$12k machine up a flight of stairs in an old school building, using one of those stair climbers. Stair climber slipped off of the old, worn down, granite stair, and machine tumbled down about 20 steps. Boss was helping too, so he couldn't point fingers. Thank goodness no kids were coming up the stairs at the time.

Re: Whats the worst thing that happened to you during install of machine

I was out at a military base doing work on 3 machines. I got all 3 done in record time, small user issues, and went to my vehicle to leave.
There were armed guards and guys in chemical suits hovering all over the place, I thought nothing of it and put my kit in the vehicle and got in to leave. Before I even started the vehicle there was a very daunting knock on the window, and there before me stood an armed guard who was as tall as a tower. I rolled down the window and he told me in no uncertain terms that I was not to start the vehicle and to leave it immediately. I got out and was escorted to the nearest building and had to turn over my keys. I went in to the building to find out that it was some kind of emergency on the base and I was stuck there till everything was cleared. Needless to say, 4 hours later and a nice stay in the officers mess all was good for me to leave. I never did find out what the emergency was though.

Seriously though, weren't you the slightest bit terrified? What kind of emergency could lock down a military base?

On 9/11, 2001, I was at a 3rd Special Forces Company and had just finished their copier. I had watched the towers go down that morning. The Sergent in the room was monitoring his computer and all of a sudden said, "That's it , we are on lockdown" He looked at my horrified face as I heard the front door lock and said "We got lots of beer". Itold him my biggest problem was that I had a copier from the Golden Knights in the back of an open bed truck and it was going to rain. He jumped up and let me out and I got the copier delivered on time before the rain. That was also the last day I ever drove onto base without being searched, until I got a DOD pass.

OH my god all i can say is thank god your BOSS was with you, If that had of been me and co with out the big man i could say we were in for the bullet.

I wish we could have a Stair lifter, The boss in our Company said that it was unproductive to buy it, even though we lifted 10 or more machines a week up stairs. They were that mean we use to borrow one from the local Ricoh Company when we could get it.

While delivering for a new contract, 2 guys completely tip over a Di 470. Service manager decided the machine was still unusable. Nobody told me. For about 2 years I fought this thing because the frame was bent. It would make good copies but the right side door would pop open. When I found out I went off, and had it pulled. 1 month later they put it back out in the field. 3 hours after they installed it I had a call for the right side door. I went in and pushed a big metal desk up against the door, looked at the staff and said "Low bidder on a government contract" and left.

Re: Whats the worst thing that happened to you during install of machine

It wasn't that scary, but fairly annoying ...

I was at an iron foundry, cleaning a Canon LC4000 fax when two big guys came into the office where I was working, and informed me that I would be leaving the building now. I asked for a couple minutes to pack up my tools ... but they said nope, Now.

Once in the parking lot I discovered that there was a bomb threat, and the state police bomb dogs were being brought in. Three hours later, me and the couple of remaining employees that didn't go home went back in and got our stuff. No bomb, just a threat.

                            Hmmm, worst. How about this:
We now have a policy that 2 hours IT time are included in the sale price. Any additional time is billable at $150/hr. The installation just before the implementation of this policy was a FalconII. I start with drivers, oh fifteen PC's, ... OK. Then scan to email. Then scan to PC (FTP), yes all fifteen PC's. Then PC faxing. Then fax forwarding. Then a bunch of addressbook entries. Oh, and show us how to use every possible function. And why does it work like that ... ? Ten hours later (over two days) I finally get to leave. And it's a special customer, so I'm to bend over backwards for them.

Now when I start new installs I start with: "You have two hours IT time paid for. How would you like me to use this time? This time is most efficiently used when your IT person is on-hand."
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

It is a research base, and there are a lot of things in underground bunkers, and high security buildings.
I learned long before that incident that I should not ask what is going on there, just know that it is very high security.
I did enjoy the occasional afternoon out on their range playing with some of the weaponry that they have.
I don't think I'll get a chance to do that again
