So true. Those prisoners can certainly be creative... Who would have thought you can use the surfaces within the cells to grind down the end of a toothbrush into a nice pointy stabbing tool, or breaking glasses for the same effect... In the hands of a prisoner, perhaps anything really can be a weapon.

Unfortunately we're just as creative with our fixes, so we must be just as dangerous, right?

      Re: Leave your car keys????

Some four years ago I visited the Civil Aviation Authority located within an airport to carry out some fixes, and had to go through a service gate manned by a private security company. On my return, a guard demanded to inspect my car boot, and it was full of parts and accessories. I querried the logic of doing that on exit while it was not done on entry. The guard stated that everything was supposed to be delivered and that I was not supposed to take anything back and when he could not understand any explanation, I was obliged to drive back to where I was working, some 4km away. The CA Director was furious at the arrogance of the guard and listed everything in the boot (including the spare tyre) and attached a strong note that they were my possession and be allowed out.Back at the gate, the guard said it is ok with my possessions, but I should explain why did I call him bogus. To this I replied, 'because that is the way I see you.' He replied that he is not going to allow me out untill his supervisor comes, and turned away to communicate with his radio call. I drove and parked exactly in front of the gate and told him that no car is going to drive in or out the gate untill I get my case dealt. On noting this, the co-guard ignored him, opened the gate and waved me away. A few months late security company got terminated.

Years ago, I went to a well known prison in Manchester, England. Security wasn't too bad (even after the 1990 riots)took a liitle time to get through, but you'd expect that. Whilst I was fixing the copier, tool case open, a prisoner was sweeping the corridor outside the room I was in, he was concentrating rather a lot on the spot outside the door. I started to feel a little uncomfortable, whern thankully a guard came a long and told him to leave. The guard said he would have had something from the case quicker than anything, and it could have led to alls orts of trouble

          Hi all

many years ago i went to fix a copier in a mine, you have to strip naked and wear their stuff
and use their tools. 2 guards glued to the sides of your arms even when you fixing the copier
and on the way back you have to bend over for a checkup.

I have never considered how much I would add to the bill for an anal probe. I guess a lot of that would depend on how good the guy is doing the probe.

From what I've hear mouse company in question is pretty much an underground porn playland for animators and writers...they prolly have stuff that would put your mag to shame....

                    Re: Leave your car keys????

Wow! Institution stories! How about this one?:

It was early in my career, I was in my late 20's I'd guess. I was sent out to Macomb Oakland Center which was the nuthouse. There was a Mita DC-313Z in the Intake area. About four feet away there is this room with benches all around the outside, and corrugated steel over the window openings, no glass.

So I'm working on my Mita and this average looking guy comes up to the other side of the door and is watching what I'm doing. He asks if I have a cigarette. I tell him no, I don't. A little while later he tells me that it's all been just a little understanding. Could I just give him the key? I explain that he'll have to talk to the intake nurse.

Over a period of about an hour this gentleman changes from a calm seemingly rational person to a raving lunatic, throwing himself face first into the steel grating until blood from the various wounds oozes through the grating. I must admit I was pretty shook up by then. Then two very large gentleman in nice white coats and trousers go into the room, pick up the average sized guy like he was a ragdoll, and carry him off flailing and twitching. I must say I was glad to see him go. Four feet was way too close for my comfort.

On another occasion I was working on the same machine. In came the paramedics with a young lady draped over a very large gurney and strapped in. She must have exceeded 500#. The whole time she was in Intake she sang in a bright clear voice:

I love me! I love my Mom! I love God! (about ten million repetitions. I can still hear it when I think about it.) =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Wow. I've done service in a few mining site as well, but the only restrictions they have are signing in at the security gate, and, depending on the location of the machine, a hard hat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, ear plugs, and an escort.

Of course, it's an iron mine, so I'm guessing they could care less if you stuff an ore pellet or two up your @$$...

I agree, I'd get with my S/M and have that cust bring the machine out to a area I could work on it, I have had to wear Nomex in some plants, but over street clothes, and why in a office trailer I was never told, but it kept the dust off my clothes while I was on my back cleaning some rollers in a old SD 3062's transport area, but most plants nowdays have figured it out, not going into process area, dont need all that PPE, dont go into many any more though, have a couple, but not much.
