Re: Impressions from Presidential Debate
And just imagine the mess he'll inherit if he gets reelected... But let's be real here - most of the factors responsible for the collapse were started well before Bush - most of them (like forcing freddie and fannie to float loans to people they KNEW couldn't afford them) were pushed by the liberals - and some were just plain stupid on both sides.
I agree about ending most foreign aid... Temporary, short term aid isn't so much of a problem (Earthquake in Haiti. Tsunami. Hurricane.) It's the continuing aid to places where their own government isn't doing it's job - especially places that would just as soon we dropped dead - that needs to end... they can hate us for free.
Reagan engineered the fall of communism in Russia, and took the failed policies of Carter (and if you really want to get down to it, Reagan inherited a bigger mess than Obama) and created an economic boon that lasted until the Democrats took control of both houses of congress. There were a lot of other screwed up policies from so-called conservatives, but the theory of letting the free market be free to create jobs without excessive taxes and regulation has been pretty well proven. The problem comes in when you start ignoring real problems, and introducing stupid regulation. We as consumers also share part of the blame for favoring the cheapest product / service, rather than the most valuable product / service... can I get an "Amen" from the independent copier guys/gals here.
Favoring the cheapest pushes companies to cut corners and produce inferior products. It costs us more in the long run because these things just don't hold up - you really do get what you pay for. If we were smart consumers we'd realize that $12 made in china toaster that burns up after a year isn't really a good value compared to the $20 made in America version that only gets canned because the art deco look went out of style. Homegrown carries a little pride with it... and it's also a lot easier to find a neck to choke if the products / company "don't do right". Heck, even if it isn't any better you still supported jobs here at home, and kept your money circulating in our economy.
I don't understand this new global economy. It's great to be part of world trade, but it seems we're trading jobs for... ??? Well, what are we trading our jobs for? Reagan understood that - The job of government is to take care of YOUR country - let the rest of the world take care of itself.
Just my $0.02 - Take it for what it's worth because you're still about 2 bucks short of getting a cup of coffee.
