Re: Hey folks, you remember common sense?
I'm confused, Iowatech, what does a spatula and shampoo (Head and Shoulders) have to do with an assault? If a boxer (fists), MMA fighter (fists, feet, or whatever), or some freak with a ballpoint pen threatens me, that, to me, is an assault."You can't trust your eyes, if your mind is out of focus" --Comment

Re: Hey folks, you remember common sense?
AH HA ! ! So now we need the government to start proceedings to ban spatulas ?
..... REMEMBER THE SAYING ?
If guns kill people , then pens and pencils are responsible for misspelled words .
Therefore , it's the Attack Spatulas that burn the eggs . ( and then they beat you about the head, neck, and shoulders )"The Serenity Prayer" . . .

Darren there was a man on the radio the other day that offered $50,000 dollars to anyone who could proiduce for him a gun that would by itself raise up off the table, aim, and kill someone. Do you think you have a winner?"Some days you get the bear, some days the bear gets you."

Re: Hey folks, you remember common sense?
In the US, every day during 2007, about 266 Americans were shot. Every day, a third of them (82 daily) died.
I wonder how many words were misspelled by those very dangerous pens and pencils?Comment

And if you don't believe me, I will get my bottle of "Head and Shoulders" out of the shower! (I've got dry scalp, darnit!)Comment

Re: Hey folks, you remember common sense?
I can believe those stats.
Does your source of this information state how many of these Americans were shot by Law-Abiding Citizens who were possibly protecting themselves from criminals; or how many were shot by non-law-abiding citizens ( we call them Criminals ); or, how many were shot by Law Enforcement Officers who were perhaps protecting some Law-Abiding Citizens ?
Just curious ."The Serenity Prayer" . . .

Now matter what you say this is a people problem. Not a gun problem. Instruments must have operators.

It depends entirely on how dangerous whomever was utilizing the pens and pencils.

At least is how it works where I live, I believe it's the same in the US. What about weapons? Do you need to have any instructions? License? Or you just go out and buy a gun? If so, then your analogy is not correct.' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'

The ownership of a gun is the right all of the citizens of this country.

Re: Hey folks, you remember common sense?
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, why life isn't always fair, and how, on occasion, maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned, but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.
Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I am a Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment
