Re: Your fat sugary ass!
I get the feeling saleservice guy doesn't like Americans? We are all a bunch of fat, gun toting nut jobs down here.
Let's see. Ban all guns, hammers, baseball bats , knives .. Ban all soft drinks, ( this Bloomberg law is just the first step you know.) Ban Whoppers and Big Mac's , Ban all cars, I'm sure there are more things we could ban.
When I went to school we had PE. From first grade throu High School. Not many fat guys back then. They did away with PE in most schools. Everyone sits in front of there TV or computer. I bet if we banned computers there would be a lot less fat people in this country.Comment

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
I forwarded the diet soda link to my fat ass sister in law. I'm tired of her preaching how it's SO much better for someone than regular soda... She's probably as close to American as I'll ever be. Stuffs her face with McDonald's and A&W 2-3 times a week if not more, and rather than exercising would prefer to take a nap. She takes diet pills but wonders why she never loses weight...
Don't get me wrong, I'm not the most active guy either, and my waistline is beginning to reflect that, but I still make healthy choices in what I consume and do make attempts to be active as often as possible. I just happen to like going back for thirds seconds...Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
I don't drink soda at all....I've never been big into soda...always grew up drinking tea...used to love sweet tea like there was no tomorrow...untill I found out I'm hypoglycemic and it was causing me to crash hard and be a real surly bastard to people...now if I do get tea it's unsweet and I'm fine with that....and I love my coffee without sugar in it...I'm a glutton for strawberry milk tho...but only drink that maybe once a week...and I like my beer and scotch...but I've not really enjoyed a good scotch lately as I've just not gotten around to it...and I'll have a beer or two in the evening....I eat like a pig as well...and the greasier and more deep fried it is the better.....don't exorcise either...did enough running in the army that I hate running....also smoke...now then...I'm 145 lbs and 6'0....and when my cholesterol shoots thru the roof or my smoking kills me or I finally do gain some weight from sitting on my ass...well I'm not going to blame the government for that...I made all those choices....I do blame the government for pissing away the money I'm taxed on crap tho....I could sure use that money....to get a nice dripping with grease pepperoni pan pizza so I can choke on it...."In a cruel and evil world, being cynical can allow you to get some entertainment out of it."

Oh come on Akitu. They don't have fat people in Canada do they? LOL. It really isn't soft drinks. It's the WHOLE diet that is the problem. I have family down south. When they make biscuits and sausage gravy they add MORE oil. When my wife makes it she drains off the fat. Taste just as good and more healthy for you. ( Ya I know, biscuits and gravy, healty ?? ) But you get the idea. You can eat better.Comment

Again, not saying it doesn't happen up here. Matter of fact, in the small piece of Hell I call my home right now, there are only 2 locally owned non-chinese restaurants, 1 chinese restaurant (that isn't chinese and has food loaded with MSG), an A&W, a Subway, a Quiznos, a Domino's, a Pizza Hut, a Boston Pizza and 2 McDonald's. That's right, I said TWO McDick's... Oversaturation of a small market. Total population that lives here full time is approximately 16000, with another transient 16000 from the outlying communities.
For reference, here's a Google Maps link to show how small my town actually is. Everything here is about a 3-6 minute drive, or a half hour walk. https://maps.google.ca/maps?q=Thomps...itoba&t=m&z=14
I see no reason to have 2 McDonald's, but no Burger King, talk about injustice!
Canadians can be just as lard as our American brethren, but we don't blame our government for our bad choices. We buy our 32oz soft drinks from McDicks knowing full well it contains many more calories and grams of sugar than is necessary, it's just up to the individual to balance those aspects of their life to fit it in and make a health conscious decision.
When I hear reports of how 80% of a population in the states is overweight/obese (random arbitrary number I pulled out of my ass), I find it a little skewed. These results are probably based off the Body Mass Index which doesn't account for muscle mass, simply height and weight ratios. I wouldn't be surprised to find that a good chunk of that 80% classified as overweight are actually healthy individuals with a lot of muscle mass and little to no body fat.
I did embolden overweight because it's a different classification as obese.
When I see people blaming the government for allowing them to sell 32oz sodas it makes my brain hurt. At what point did someone hold a gun to their head and force them to chug that 32oz soda? I don't ever recall seeing a story on the news about that.
I agree it's the whole diet that's the problem, but a great place to start is the soda drinks that are making up over 20% of recommended daily free sugar intakes. It's ultimately up to the individual to make the correct choices for themselves, and the blame falls squarely on their shoulders.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
I read yesterday but cannot seem to find the link today, I paraphrase:
What Mayor Bloomberg said about the obese epidemic in NY state and soft drinks was that the state just cannot afford to support the rapidly growing healthcare costs of over weight people. Either they introduce new laws to try and encourage people to make better choices, they increase taxes or there is a further decline in the quality of healthcare to all citizens.
Mayor Bloomberg knows the law is not perfect and there are many ways around it but just like NY state's ground breaking laws about trans fat that eventually effected the entire North America, he hopes the same for high sugar soft drinks.Comment

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
This law is a city trying to change my rights as an American.
As a Canadian, I can understand your willingness to give up your freedom, I never will.
What do you care about NY anyway? You don't like it, stay home. Why do they call it common sense?
If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?Comment
