Some schools ban junk food vending machines. Others ban lunches packed from home to keep junk food out and promote healthy eating habits. Does this infringe on a parents right to teach their child bad habits? Should a school be able to control what comes in to it?

Regardless or not whether it needs to happen, it's kind of sad that it's always just looking for another source to pass the blame onto. The parents can't be bothered to teach their kids healthy eating habits in the first place, and they decide to blame McDonald's or vending machines for their little porkers weighing 300 lbs at 12 years old. I think first and foremost the general attitude should be towards teaching personal accountability.

I guess we will have to wait and see the outcome of Bloomberg's appeal. And yes, drama sells. You are reading this post aren't you!
You be careful about this....I'm sure it's on the list of things to be regulated soon enough.

OK saleserviceguy. I think they should ban beer from now on. You said you had a few to many.

Did you know that beer has female hormones in it.

In England they did a study and had a large # of guys drinking ales. Well after about 8 ales the men started talking loudly and not being very logical, started arguing, and had to sit down to pee.

Maybe I'm going to far about banning beer. Let's just ban it in Nova Scotia. You guys up there are out of control . LOL.

Nanny Doomberg now wants to take cigerettes out of public view......why? Does hiding them make people not want to buy them? I mean when I get off work and stop by a store to get beer or smokes whether I can see them or not I know they are in there. Hell we have drive thru liquor stores here...I don't even have to go into the store to make sure they are in there so that I can purchase them.....so can someone explain the logic on this one to me?

Just when I thought this thread was played out, a new topic arrives. Do schools have the right to not allow parents to pack school lunch for their kids? Wow! Survey says, most parents disagree.

Is the school's position, parents are so subservient or lazy to their kids that they knowingly pack junk food for lunch when the school only offers healthy choices? Double wow!

Another topic, in schools, due to budget cutbacks, PE (Physical Education) classes are often the first to be cut. What is usually left are teachers who volunteer to teach PE after paid hours. No wonder our children are turning into dough boys. Young people are so vulnerable to the marketing skills of clever advertising firms.

Re Drive through liquor stores, we have one only location in our province (state) offering this service. If the attendant suspects you are intoxicated, the cops at the end of the parking lot will bust your ass in one minute. Where I live there are no privately owned liquor stores. They are all provincial (state) run stores. Some Canadian provinces allow you to purchase beer and wine only, no hard liquor, in grocery stores.

Of course parents have the right to pack their children's lunches. As many fat kids are getting fed by the school's family meal replacement program, things will only get better if the parents provide lunch.
Also, with recess getting cut as well, kids don't have the ability to run around outside. After all, marketing only works for so long.

You can pop on over to Louisiana and go thru a drive thru daiquiri store....they mix it up and hand it right out the window to you....of course they keep the paper on the straw...this is supposed to keep you from enjoying your drink while you drive.....

Mighty Mississippi, State with Highest Obesity Rate in the U.S., Refuses to 'Micro-Regulate Citizens' Dietary Decisions'

According to Reuters, a new law signed by their governor, Phil Bryant, which prohibits municipalities from banning toys in fast-food meals, pushed back what might have been a chance to make some healthy distinctions for the state. His decision came just a week after a judge blocked an effort by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to prohibit vending machines, movie theaters and retailers from selling single-serving sugary drinks larger than 16 ounces (473 ml), an effort that was intended to tackle the public health problems caused by rising rates of obesity.

Nutrition: Mighty Mississippi, State with Highest Obesity Rate in the U.S., Refuses to 'Micro-Regulate Citizens' Dietary Decisions' : Health & Medicine : Science World Report

The state has the highest rate of obesity of any U.S. state at 34.9 percent. Its residents typically weight 30 pounds or more above the ideal weight, according to the data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and it is unlikely that the state will tackle the obesity issue any time soon, according to Sandra Shelson, the executive director of the Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi.
She also noted that Mississippi has no statewide regulations on smoking in public places, though several dozen local municipalities have passed such laws.

I had to Google Kidaver's post about drive through daiquiri stores. I thought he might be joking but it is true.

It appears if there are four people in the car, three can be served and consume alcoholic drinks in the car but the straw's paper wrapper must remain undisturbed over the drink that the driver is holding.

I think almost anywhere else, the police would absolutely have a heart attack over such a public service.

Obesity raises the risk of numerous diseases, from type 2 diabetes to endometrial cancer, meaning more sick people and higher medical costs in the future, the report said.
