Re: Time to admit to all your boo boos
One time working on an old savin 7350 I replaced the thermofuse but reinstalled the holder backwards. I quickly discovered (after turning the main power on) that this will short the AC circuit as all the lights went out in the building. I lied and said "no idea what happened, it wasn't me, my machine was still unplugged when the lights went out".
Real early on I was working on a machine (in a firehouse) that had a short in the fusing unit that kept popping the fuse on the power supply. After going over the fuser I finally located the wire that was pinched to the frame. At this point, I was all out of replacement fuses. I was confident though that I had located the problem and I just wanted to make sure the rest of the machine was working and didn't need any additional parts before I went for more fuses. In place of the fuse I installed a (and yes I learned my lesson an never tried that again) PAPERCLIP. When I turned the power on (well there was a 2nd short after all) the paperclip exploded off the power supply and shot halfway across the room glowing red hot. It landed on the carpet near a wall and burned a paperclip shaped char mark in the carpet. Lucky for me, there was a garbage can near by so I just moved it to cover the burn. Good thing I was alone in the room at the time. Nearly setting a firehouse on fire is pretty bad.Comment

Re: Time to admit to all your boo boos
Toshiba Fusers !!!!!
Rebuilding a estudio 2500c or something like that.
Now most decent fusers Canon Ricoh etc have plastic guides where the wires go and no chance of a screw getting anywhere near the wires....Not Toshiba..
Rebuilt the POS and after about 50 copies BANG, it took out the circuit breaker and four pcs went off as well.
Fortunately I was in the workshop.Comment

Re: Time to admit to all your boo boos
my worst 2 ( that i'll admit to)
the first was over 30 yrs ago, i used to "fix" national intercoms, but used to have an electrician with me for the cabling, we were in a bank with floor sockets, he unscrewed the socket to check for something, then asked me to screw it back down, while he went & did something else, I managed to put the screw through a cable, there was a hell of a bang & a flash.....and everybody's computer crashed, there was i slumped against the wall....a gibbering wreck, he didn't let me anywhere near the sockets again
the 2nd was recent, I had to get down behind a KM C451, a sod to move on your own, so without thinking, i pushed against what was behind me, i felt the bookcase behinde me start to topple, it seemed to go in slow motion, as i went with it, but was thinking if i grab it i can stop it, it ended up on this ladies desk, who luckily had just got up to make me a coffee, when she came back, she found me flat on my back on this bookcase & her desk covered in books!!Tip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...Comment

=^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

We recently had to move a c450 down 12(metal wide grated) steps.. The machine didn't fair to well on the ride down. Fortunately, no one was hurt(that bad) and the stair climber didn't get banged up.
I remember when I first started, I rode with another tech to work on a c252 he was rebuilding in A warehouse area. He had the machine running with no covers and pointed to something near the PSU with his magnetic screw driver, it got a little to close and kissed the unit and pow! There was a pop and a spark, he thought he bricked it. Turned out the maintenance guy came in and said "sorry but the breaker tripped back here, you should be able to get back to work now. We had some kind of a power surge." We turned the machine back on, it ran fine.Comment

Re: Time to admit to all your boo boos
Okay, not too long ago, I was working on a KM c550 for this cheap @!# who refused to buy waste toner boxes and had me cut a hole into it and dump it out whenever I was on site.
Easy enough right? Simply go outside and shake it into a bag and put duct tape over the hole--5 min of work for...well nothing in my pockets...until one day.
It was windy and all I had was my old Subway sandwich bag and go outside to empty the unit. Almost immediately the bag filled up with the bottom on the ground, when I lifted the bag I was blinded by a puff of brown stuff--there was a hole in the bottom of the bag and the wind somehow bounced off the walls (I was in a corner) and blew about half a waste toner box of toner in my face.
Everyone thought that was funny.
As I take a shower 30 min later, I remembered that I intentionally popped the Subway bag to startle those around.Comment

Re: Time to admit to all your boo boos
I have to say, having a dyslexic moment while reading this made it a lot funnier than it should have been. I was wondering if there was context for it before my eyes finally started working again and I was able to successfully read boo boos instead of what I actually read...Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment
