I didn't come up with that idea, I only agreed with zed255 on that. I also only said, "it would be nice...". It might not be realistic, but it would be the proper way to do it. I know that I don't have any interest in reading through the areas of brands that I have nothing to do with, so I'm sure that it wouldn't be much different for anybody who became a moderator.

Slim, I was just referencing 'other' forums as I do have other interests in life, not necessarily ones specific to the subject matter of CTN. The only other one I reference for such technical content is the one Ricoh hosts on the TSRC.

The only administrators I've ever been aware of here are Aneurysm and 10871087 on this board and the latter hasn't been here since 2017. JustManuals, as a financial contributor, also has some influence though not as an administrator or moderator.

You are correct that CTN is almost certainly if not the last, it is the most significant of the last, forums of its kind. I'm just comparing my experience here with other forums that I consider well run. Improving the overall state of this site may just keep it relevant into the future. Doing nothing will likely ensure it goes the way the others have already gone. Just my humble opinion.

10871087 was the one I was thinking of about 2 hours ago. Hasn't been around for a few years. As for JustMnauals the owner, Paul Gelsman, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014. He had bypass surgery earlier in that year and never fully recovered.

I remember the forum on TSRC. Same software here. Not much support though. You could get better help shouting into an empty beer keg. Apparently their support people didn't monitor it.

Just wanted to add, Paul the owner of Just Manuals past away back around 2017. He was here right up until he died. Had moved to Vegas around 20 yrs ago. He was hated and banned by moderators on many forums for selling manuals. This was the only place he got away with it so he must of had an in with anurysem.

              Same software is correct.
You are also correct that there is not much support from Ricoh's people.
A couple of Threads lately have asked the question of "Is the forum abandoned/ unmanned?".
When I first started, the TSSC guys were always quick to answer, and usually had some pretty good advice. Not so much (if at all) anymore.
In 2012 they had one rep who said "Thanks guys for the feedback. I see we have a few things to look into, mainly the unanswered threads. I will have that reviewed" after multiple posts about the "abandoned forums". Here we are 8 years later, and still no change.
They say that other technicians "should be the ones to answer questions based on experiences/ solutions they've had", and that's generally what goes on anyway, but to have the Manufacturers people chime in is nice because they usually have little tips and tricks to try that the Normal Tech. wouldn't think of.

CTN is great because of the number of techs who are active and post good information, All over the spectrum.
I would rate this site higher than any other one I've been to.

I have been working at times on both sides, dealers and direct. And must say techs here from all over the world are way more helpful than I ever can imagine. You can have all sorts of solutions, bulletins, tools, etc. In the real world that's meaningless regarding field experience, some guys genuine MacGyverses(yes you BC are the one of them :cool. ) and fighting problems on daily basis.
That's why I'm so fuc..ng grateful to the people helping here, true heroes in my eyes!

Occasionally when you call tech support you get lucky and actually talk to someone who has just been promoted to tech support from the field and has first hand experience with the problem you are having. Almost 20 years ago we had a high school office with an Aficio 551. They had started having frequent jamming when doing duplex. The tech that normally worked on that model had been out a few times and tried everything in the trouble shooting and then call tech support. Finally our boss ask me to go with Izzy and see if I could determine anything. While Izzy started working on the machine, I called tech support. The person I talked to said that he had seen the problem a number of times and asked was how many totals copies was on the machine. It was a little over 1.2 million. He said to replace the rely clutch on the first feed unit. And as a temporary fix to swap the clutches between the first and third feed modules. He explained that the first relay clutch energizes for every sheet coming out of any paper tray. When it gets worn, somewhere after 1M, the timing between paper coming from a tray and paper coming from the duplex to be slightly different. His solution worked.

You would be hard pressed to find that many views of any forum on any topic on the internet other than music videos on YouTube.

There is no money in listening to copier techs whine about this or that.

If you think CTN is going away anytime soon because a few techs do not understand the economics of this platform, nobody will miss you when you are gone.
You got it. Pageviews = ad revenue. This site is far from dead.
No site owner is going to mess with a thread that gets so many pageviews. Just because he doesn't post regularly doesn't mean he isn't checking his site stats, down time, and any errors regularly.

Would someone be willing to post a new thread in my name?

I tried to post a thread about a printer issue 3 weeks ago, but threads posted by people with low post count (at least it seems to be my case) trigger anti-spam protection, which require manual moderator approval.

My first thread got approved in less than 10 days, but the second one seems to hang in moderation queue without any sign of progress.

I would be really grateful, as this issue prevents me from using my printer.

Sorry, but page view do not generate revenue. People clicking on adds and actually ordering something are what generate revenue. ANd guess what it is the opinions of copier techs that decide whether they click on an add and order from that advertiser. SalesServiceGuy how many of those views are actually you and your liberal buddies bsm2 and copier addict?

Just for your information the following is from the title of the forum that SalesServiceGuy's thread is located in. Please note the "Anything goes.":
Forum: Rants, Raves, and Everything Else

This is the place to bitch, moan, or make a statement. Anything goes!

I have no idea if low post count people need moderator approval or not, it's been far too long since I was that low. If indeed that is the case, then you have fallen victim to exactly what this current thread is all about, the need of another over-lord. The only person who has the capacity to "moderate" this forum hasn't been on in over three weeks when I checked a couple days ago.

It seems that you can reply to posts that are already here, but maybe just not start a new thread? If you are in fact being moderated because of a low post count, I'd say just make a bunch of useless replies in the "TEST" section of the forum. Get your post count up to maybe 10 or 15 posts and then see if you can start a new thread without the need for moderator approval.

Best I can tell you at this point...

Did you receive and reply to the Welcome letter that is automatically sent when you joined? If you haven't, check your spam and junk mail folders. Until you do reply you can not post to technical forums. If you have not replied and cannot find it, do the following:
                            1. White list admin@copytechnet.com by adding it to your address book. If you are using an ISP provided email and accessing it through an email program and not directly online, you will need to do this both in the program and the ISP's webmail access.
                            2. If you do not have a secondary email address create one and make sure admin@copytechnet.com is white listed.
                            3. Change the email address in your forum profile to your secondary email address. This will generate a confirmation email which once you reply to it your membership will be activated.

Should that not work, you will need to create a new post in Site Feedback & Questions, you should be allowed to do so, stating your problem and then wait until aneurysm gets to it.

Google Adsense pays you just for clicks, not sales. Those ads we all see in the sidebar and top banner are Google Adsense. My Adsense account pays out anywhere from $10-$50 per month JUST for clicks. Sure I get affiliate money from the vendor if those clicks turn in to sales but Google pays out just based on clicks.

I'm sure Google Adsense is paying CTN much more then me per month.

Then there's places like media vine. Based solely on clicks they pay you to run ads. Their starting tier pays ~$3,000 per month. It goes up from there and it is JUST based on clicks. Regardless if any click turns into a sale, you get paid based on clicks.

And if the techs do not click, no revenue. Ergo you and SalesServiceGuy are still wrong when you say that the presence of the ads and the number views on a given thread are what generate revenue. Review what has been said.

One other thing to remember, many people, myself included, use ad blockers and therefore never see the ads. I had it turned off for CTN for a long time but recently noticed that it was often taking multiple minutes, if ever, for forum pages to finish loading. This created a problem in that after I had read all new posts in a forum, I was having to click stop before I could click reload to see if there had been any new posts or replies to posts. For awhile I was thinking it was my builtin WiFi on my laptop was the problem since I have had to reset it a few time this month but then I noticed that Firefox was showing strange urls on the bottoms left corner. When I saw one of them was google.ad.(some thing) I turned AdBlock+ on and no more problem.
