Ricoh MPC3500 scan to folder error

Hello all, I have a Ricoh MPC3500 that fails on SMB scanning, giving the following error: "pserverstart (NETWARE) info, then "File server is empty CRII", then Exit pserver INFO"
All firmware is up to date. I can browse to the folder through the op panel (admin tools) and connect to the folder on the domain controller but when I do an actual scan I get the aforementioned error. O/S is Srvr 2012 (not R2). I have never ecountered this error code so....................HELP please!!

        Scratch... scratch...
From memory I believe there was an RTB (Ricoh Tech Bulletin) out for Scan to SMB or server 2012 ?

        Something along those lines....

SlimSlob might have more info for you....

          Hi there!
Just looked in a german service-info from RICOH, and they say that the MPC 3500 cannot smb-scan under server2012.
          Greetings...

Re: Ricoh MPC3500 scan to folder error

Since this is a older model you may want to check out this info; newer machines are using port 445. Whats not stated in this copy\paste is running a "show" command that will let you to verify the settings before you start and after if you need to change the port.

              Good luck..

If Scan to Folder is conducted on a computer or server that has the Windows Update that was published on June 14, 2016, applied, it might fail to send to the folder.

The following information is what we currently know about KB3161949:

              Symptom
If Scan to Folder is conducted on a computer or server that has the Windows Update that was published on June 14, 2016, applied, it might fail to send to the folder.

              Cause
If KB3161949 is included in an update that is applied from Windows Update, this issue might be occur.

After applying this KB, it restricts the network connection of TCP 139 (NetBIOS over TCP/IP) to only a local segment. Therefore, a connection for Scan to Folder by using TCP 139 from the MFP, which is in a different segment from the destination computer, might be denied.

              Workaround
To avoid this issue, please conduct the following workaround:

              - Change the priority port for the SMB client to TCP 445 (Direct Hosting/CIFS) by using telnet.

Change the priority port procedure of the SMB client:
              1) Connect to the target device by using telnet from the command prompt and log in as the administrator.
              2) Enter the following command:
              >smb client port 445

              RICOH Maintenance Shell.
              User access verification.
login: ***** (enter the Administrator login name)
              Password: (enter the password)
              User access verification ... OK.

Also, turn off NetWare in the network settings.

If there is Server 2012 ( a Microsoft product) on the network, it is extremely unlikely there is a Novell NetWare server.

NetWare is all but dead: I can't remember the last time I saw it.

(The later versions of NetWare ran pure TCP/IP; legacy versions were IPX/SPX.)

This is not necessarily true. KB3161949 only causes problems when you are trying to scan to a computer that is on a different sub-net and then only if you are not on a domain. It also seems to cause problems scanning using IP address instead of computer name.

If you are on a domain, the following things need to be correct:
                        1. Domain name
                        2. Primary DNS must be the primary domain DNS
                        3. MFP must have a NetBios name

                        If not on a domain:

                        1. Workgroup name must be correct
                        2. Primary DNS should be the gateway/router
                        3. MFP must have a NetBios name

                          Hello all,
Never could get it to scan to 2012. Turns out their IT guy isn't an IT guy after all. He's the GM for the business and as such does not a lot of knowledge with the network (at least I know why the network is a mess!!) At the end of the day they only used scan to SMB in the "old" days, whatever that means. They scanned to a folder and picked it out of the folder as an attachment to an e-mail. I set up scan to e-mail and they are good with that. So, not fixed technically but customer is fixed. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I had customer who was scanning to email on their in house exchange server and referring to it as scanning to a folder as employees would get them directly from the folder on the exchange server. Eliminated the need to set up the authentication needed for SMB or FTP.
