    locking down drivers

We've a bizhub C458 out on trial. the customer is using secure print, but they want it to only print in mono, they have the drivers on the server, and then are installing from there to each individual pc, is there a way of stopping the individuals from changing the settings from greyscale to autocolour or 2 colour when trying to print

Also, we downloaded the mono 458 drivers, but keep getting "login error" when printing to secure print, I'm assuming that as they're mono drivers, controlling a colour machine, they're not quite compatible

I did set the machine to user authentication/public user set to black which did what they wanted, but for some reason, when they log into their secure print box, if you select more than one document, the "print" button disappears from the screen

    Any ideas

    Cheers

    Re: locking down drivers

I can contribute to some of that.

The reason that the bizhub 458 driver does not secure print to a bizhub C458 is because the authentication data is encrypted, and the encryption password is unique to the specific model. You can check to see if Konica Minolta offers a monochrome print driver for the bizhub C458.

Perhaps someone from the IT side can comment on this. I would think that IT can change the user rights to limit the ability of the enduser to change specific driver settings, perhaps to include color/monochrome.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Unfortunately, from the IT side there's very little you can do because the permissions that allow a user to print will also allow them to change the settings on the driver (since that's the means by which they're able to print).

I'm not a KM guy, and this is for a different model, but might it help?

Check to see if KM has anything to Ricoh's Print Driver editor or the newer Print Driver Packager NX. These allow you to lock down certain portions of the driver such as color printing, duplex printing and some finishing options.

That's exactly my thought, but my sales bloke won't have it "it's a mono version of the same machine" is his answer.....

Kenb, I used the user authentication to set up public user, but for some reason when you use secure print, the customer can only select one document at a time to print,, if you select more than one, the "print" selection disappears

The file that either of these tools edit is a config file that contains xml code.

If a similar file exists for KM, hacking (errrr, "editing" ) it may be the answer.

                Re: locking down drivers

the reason under secure print you can only print one at a time is because you use a password on every print. you can set up each person with the authentication code and block them from color on the user and public. you can make them enter the code on everything they print which would suck. but once you give them a code that has no color authority then they cant use it and everything will auto print blk even if they try and use color.
