I have two questions. We have and use an IR5000 at about 15,000 copies per month and have had this copier for about 4 years. It is leaking toner down into the paper trays and then onto the final copies leaving smudges on the fronts and backs of the paper. Our technician told us it was not worth fixing and that our copier at 925,000 copies was ready to be replaced. This leads me to my second question; how many copies should an IR5000 give in its lifetime? A few details about the copier, it has scanning abilities and is used as a network printer for about 15 workstations. What should I do?

ir 5000
well 1st is it under maintance thru the company that fixes it??? as for the number of copies I have seen them go alot longer then that... more then twice that long... they r a good box.. the leaking toner could be the process unit that sometimes backs up if filters are not cleaned.... if under maintance i would have them fix it... if not it will get alillte pricie if it is the process unit...hope this helps... -
iRC5000 rated life is 3 million copies...so yours is still a baby
Vacuum out the pre-transfer corona and replace the scraper...and the drum cleaning assembly as these are the two most likely suspects for dropping toner in an iRC500 series machine.
Also at 1 million all the corona units need replacing, the drum needs polishing, fuser overhaul if needed, filters cleaned, ozone filters replaced, drum blade needs replacing or turning and a dev overhaul if needed.Comment

I agree with Oze & kwazimoto. 925K is by no means a lifetime. I know of many examples of ir5000 between 3M & 5M copies.
It is normal maintenance to replace or rebuild the developing unit between 1M & 1.5M. Like Oze said, if the filters and fans are not kept functioning perfectly the toner in the cleaning unit can fuse into rocks. The gears on the front frame of the cleaning unit break first, followed by cleaning augers, and damaged seals. Again its normal maintenance.
A competent Canon tech will fix you right up. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

oze is right, I seen those problems in the field, most of problems is in the drum cleaning assembly, 8 out of 10 is the gear that is busted, not the gear it self but gear teeth, take primary corona assembly out and right below that there is gear assembly, unscrew the two screws (left and right) then take out gear assembly you may turn the gear and see if its turns freely, if it's locked hard to turn, then the gear 42t/14t/20t teeth is worned need to replace that gear, if that gear teeth is worned and lock that gear assembly, the waste toner from the drum cleaning unit is not delivering waste toner to the waste toner tank, it just build up inside the cleaning unit and when it's overflow, it dump it to inside the machine as toner leak,
the part # for that gear is FS6-0862-000 incase if that's the problem
good day...Comment

True Dat. Usually the 42/14/20 tooth gear and the small gear it meshes with break because the toner hardens in the cleaning auger (probably because of dirty filters or a hot environment) Must chip out hardened toner from auger until turns freely by hand. I have one machine with 4.4 million on it!Comment

My service manager one day decided that for whatever reason he would go around to all our iR5000's and turn the fans around...so instead of blowing air into the machine they would suck air out.
We spent the next 6 months going around to the machines and replacing snapped augersComment
