    DR-G1100 scanner light strip

Sorry didn't know where to post this since I don't work on many scanners.

Wide strip middle of page (see samples). This happen after I was there to install roller maint kit and the upper & lower scan glasses. Nothing removed. Both scan glass just clip in and roller maint kit is end user replaceable. Both very simple!
The light strip looks like the width of an LED array? Sucks when you go there for a simple maintenance and machine is worse when you leave. I had the customer test after done and regular pages looked fine. But of course they didn't scan any color pages, you can see strip really good when scanning colored paper. And got the call later that day and they sent attached samples, couldn't post sample with colored paper where you can really see it because file too big.

Didn't think I would get many replies for this older unit. Forgot to ask, if anyone does know this model, did I read the service manual right that you enter service mode with a laptop and USB cable? Supposedly the service program software is built into the scanner?

Thanks in advance for anyone that replies.

That sounds right, and I believe the password is market, not sure if it case sensitive. I could be talking out of my back pocket though. As far as your problem you either need the strip replaced or possibly the controller from the sounds of it. Used to work on some of these moons ago.

I've read a service support tool may be needed? Last canon SST I used was to load sys soft into IR2200 with a parallel cable! Don't think that's going to help me ha-ha

Does anyone have the SST they could send to me?

        Thanks in advance

For Canon DR scanners you need service mode tool (QumaTool)
It's on the Setup disk bundled with this machine.

Service mode will not help in this case. Check scanner cable and connector.Clean well scanner assy.

            Re: DR-G1100 scanner light strip

I found the service program with driver and returned to service scanner. Went back over everything I did last call, which wasn't much! Cleaned the fiber optic strips again.

I did the auto adjustments with the service program. Everything seem to work no errors but did not correct problem. I went to do the individual adj and it said to insert test sheet. Think I need the density adj sheet? TKM-0347. Anyone know where I can get these test sheets? I see Precision roller has them but sells pack of 10 for $87. Don't want to spend that for something I'll never use again, or don't even know if it will help!

The LED strips all looked like they lit fine. No dead sections. They light in red and blue.

Because it is happening on front and back I don't think it is a bad reading unit. Chances of both being bad just from me changing the reading glass covers would be very unusual. I doubled checked the part #'s of new OEM reading glass I replaced and they were correct. The customer threw out the old ones or I would of put them back in for troubleshooting purposes.

It just seems like something is slightly blocking one section of the LED array.

            Also updated F/W

            Thanks again

Not sure if it helps but customer sent email saying only puts stipe on pages when scanning in Auto detect & 24 bit color. Hopefully this offers some insight and someone can help. This ones going to bite me in the ass!

Also does someone have the calibration sheets I can buy?

              Thanks

                Re: DR-G1100 scanner light strip

Yeah, I had a machine that was inaccurately identifying 9.5" wide originals with a black band down one edge. It turns out that there was a few very small dots of ink on the scanner glass. This scanner uses a black reference roller, so it was scanning the reference roller. Just cleaning the scanner glasses with alcohol did the trick. I had ordered up the calibration charts for the CIS's, but never needed to use them.

                I don't know if that helps you ... =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Made sure that the white shading strip is not dirty and operating properly. I've seen staples gather on the solenoid on older DRs and the shading strip wasn't coming out all the way and setting an incorrect white reference in areas. Darks came out light, greys were blank in areas. The machine might also need to have the shading calibrated using the service tool

                    Hi,

I don't remember well but the new reading glasses may come with adhesive tapes take a look on them. You can use the old ones for a verification.
