[Dead] Hoping this is the right place

Hey everyone, new to the site and new to forums in general. The reason I'm here in the first place is that I am a CAD designer at a small engineering firm and we just recently acquired a Canon iPF710 Plotter on the cheap that needs some work. In an effort to further avoid extra cost, I have been tasked with troubleshooting and repairing this machine if i can. Currently it won't even turn on. My plan is to clean it, as it was used and doesn't appear to have been cleaned in some time, and then to trace the wiring to determine if there are any obviously loose, shorted, or burned out wiring or circuitry. Using a cheapo DMM I was able to determine that power is making it to the voltage regulating circuit board, but I've been unable to determine much else as yet. Having never even used a plotter, I am proceeding somewhat blindly and would appreciate any insights from someone more familiar with this machine. Thank you.

Canon/HP plotters are notoriously expensive to maintain.

Before you troubleshoot the power issue look at the cost of inks, printhead & maintenance cartridge.

If I were you i’d look at renting one with a maintenance/service agreement & save yourself a lot of agro.

Not what you wanted to hear but after spending out on a new board you may need to replace further parts/inks.

For example see this recent post.

      +1 to what was mentioned.

if I as a tech that worked/works on the wide formats... I would recommend going with an Epson T series units. depending on needs ( xtra paper drawer - Scanner - PS )

Hey Copier Tech, I understand what you mean and would have probably given the same advice myself upon further research. we spent $200 on the machine that doesn't work. I am currently following the wire harness to determine if it is something as simple as the control panel being disconnected. We had looked into the cost of inks and supplies and found them to be acceptable if we are able to get it to work. Do you have any hints on how to take the side panels off?

My suggestion is to shop for a couple more broken DJ710's then use them for parts. Then the greatest individual cost would be the printhead, which you'll probably inevitably need to change. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
