Ir-C2620(3220) smb scanning failure after a few minutes on.

Here is the one that is trying to eat my brain...

All is well when the machine is first powered up. After a few minutes (5-20) the smb scanning goes down. The ability to browse the domain also drops out. The addresses are by IP, so name resolution and master browser access shouldn't stop my scans, but in this case when you can't browse, you can't smb scan. Printing to the unit seems to force the drop off to happen faster than if it were just left alone and scanned from. RUI access in unaffected and printing as well. Two other points of interest: If I hook up to my laptop with a crossover and try to browse to it the op panel locks and machine has to be cycled and the machine will not accept an RCON flash. Replaced Reader PCB and Main PCB, as well as performing MMI an MN clears. Network card is the next step for me. Also tried to find online training for the hardware side for this model so the I could access Canon hardware support, so I wonder if anyone knows the specifics on this. I don't even see a classroom course. The software/network side that I deal with has punted this off as a hardware problem, which it probably is, but I don't have the cert to open this as a hardware ticket. If the network card doesn't do the trick I'll want a Canon field rep just for customer relations and perception, if nothing else.

I am an authorized Canon tech and we are a Canon dealer. Just no hardware cert on this model. I am primarily IT and no model specific certs are needed to work with the national support center. This problem is drifting from IT to hardware...

Thanks for reading about my problem...

Unfortunately Canon customer training is limited to the minimal training given at the time of install.
Training SHOULD be supplied by your local Canon dealer(ideally the dealer that you currently have a maintenance agreement with as you won't be charged) as you require it...it's what we've always done..my customers know that they only have to phone and book a training session.
Any training on the hardware side of the machine is restricted to Canon Technicians or dealer techs.
    Now to your issue....
Does the machine have a C1 Fiery or does it have a Canon board(network card)?
Sometimes the Fiery needs to restarted.
Power the machine off....turn off the fiery.
Turn the Fiery back on followed by the copier.
    See this:
    Symptom
    • When browsing the network or logging into a Server the message 'Server Not Responding' or 'Error Check Server' appears on the control panel and you are unable to continue setup.
    • When sending a File via SMB (UNC path), 'Resending' is displayed on the bottom of the control panel. After a time out the Job Log indicates NG with a # end code e.g. #753 (For the descriptions of these # codes see this Article )
    • File 'No Response' on iR LCD when Push Scanning to File via SMB.
    • I set my iR to allow SMB and made sure LM announce is turned on. I can push scan SMB to shared folders and everything works properly. At some time at irregular intervals, the process will stop. I will not be able to Push Scan SMB until the device is rebooted. Once the device is rebooted, everything will work ok for a while. It may fail again within 5 minutes or as many as a few hours.

    Cause
    • The imageRUNNER or Fiery has not been setup as a Workgroup Printer
    • The SMB Client is set to OFF (iR1022iF & iR2020i/2016i)
    • LM Announce is Set to Off (#755)
    • DNS / WINS settings have not been setup on the iR
    • Windows Security Policies are rejecting logon credentials
    • Active Directory 2003 is used for the domain (requires SMB signing for secure communication)
    • Invalid User Name or Password
    • The Shared Folder or Account being used does not have Write Access
    • The Password Field is Blank (Simple File Sharing Disabled)
    • The Character limit for destination information has been breached
    • The Master Browser is down
    • Rule A or Rule B have not been observed when entering destinations manually
    • NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT) is disabled on the destination computer (Server)
    • Mixed Environment of Domain and Non Domain Computers
    • Network traffic is filtered (via Routers, Firewalls etc)
    • WINS scope ID has been set incorrectly
    • The DELL Network Assistant is being used on the LAN
    • Windows browsing has been disabled in the Windows Registry (e.g. SOE Environment)
    • Master Browser Election has been disabled in the Windows Registry (e.g. SOE Environment)
    • Push Scanning via SMB to a Microsoft Exchange Public Folder (Not Supported)
    • imageRUNNER limitation or Firmware Version

Now..i have a step by step checklist that I can .pdf for you...but I need to know how network savvy you are before I supply it....if you screw something up it will be YOUR responsibility and NOT mine
Supply an email address and I'll send you the .pdf(p.s.it's very involved)
ALL of this is now negated by the fact that I see in your original post that you are in fact working for a Canon dealer.
I think that only Platinum Synergy dealership techs(that's me) have access to ALL Canon resources including Tech base,Icon and Canon HQ training classes.
We're also the only dealer techs allowed to wear Canon tech uniforms etc etc.
Can you not access the online Canon CBT's?
Knowing that you're a Canon tech I'm happy to email you this Techbase checklist for troubleshooting smb faults...did you edit your post to add that info?...coz I'm sure I'd have seen it first up...but then again...I AM old

I would check out the HDD since it freezes up, it could be a HDD going bad, you already change the main controller; Try replacing HDD and reload firmware in safe mode 2&8 while powering up, to flash R-CON or D-CON you must be in fixed IP mode, when you want to just hold down 1&7 while booting up then enter service mode; Copier>function>system>download>ok. The unit will bootdown and begin process. Make sure all PCBS are seated well and correctly connected on main controller. Reason why canon has no training for this model, you must take the irc5180 class. I would try the NIC card as well. Goodluck,

        Screwtape.

I didn't see anywhere in your diagnosis that you re-installed the system software. Format the hard drive and re-install system software....first question they ask at tech support. Re-install Universal Send also if no success

I am having trouble with scanning also. Is it possible to get a copy of your checklist pdf. I am network admin, so I'm pretty comfortable working around the machines. Thanks, bob@broderic.com

What kind of trouble are you having?
Maybe I can help you out with the procedure, but details do help when your troubleshooting. And since your admin, this also helps the situation.
