    Canon IR5000i Drum Cleaning

Might anyone have the procedure to remove the drum on the right side of the Canon IR5000i copier? Need to clean drum as having a line that appears to be coming from that assembly.

    Thank you.

Clearly you shouldn't do this with out a manual if you've never remove a drum before.

    That drum is $$$$.

The drum comes out the front and not the right side.

Screwtape is right. This is not something to experiment on. It's a $2K drum. Don't risk it. Have a pro handle this one. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

db you have to unscrew and remove many things in order to take out the drum. If im not wrong the line copy should cause by cleaning blade if you said line appears to be coming from that assembly. This because i oftenly change the blade without touching, removing and cleaning the drum if unnecessary. You have to pull the developer from right side before u pull out the drum assemble from front side. As Screwtape said, you gonna go through SM.

U can replace the cleaning blade from the front. U could also try clean the drum from the side if u remove the developer and have small hands.

Did a IR5000 today, piece of junk with 1100000 copies on it. Customer put a sticker on the drum surface. Removed the sticker from the right, removed the developer.

But more cleaning was needed, so removed the front door, removed the hopper. Removed a fan unit and 2 screws. Removed the drum shaft screw and cabled. Pull out the process unit. Take it out, remove the PO sensor en cleaned it.

I just got doing a PM on a 5020i. before the PM the copies had white dots one the rear half of the copy. During the PM i removed the drum unit and drum and cleaned it because it looks like the drum has the same dots on it. the drum has and uneven color on it usually a cleaning will even out the finish any suggestions on how to get rid of the dots?

Is it regular like a roller, then check developer. If it;s not regular, but more random then clean the primary grid, or replace the primary corrona assy.

You're both right on this one. Even I have the Canon tech replace the expensive drums on my imagerunners that are in my shop. They being a dealer have given me good rates on parts so it's about the same compared to say precision roller. I don't mind maybe paying an extra hundred or so as an insurance policy.

The way I see it, if I f'up the drum I'm out a nonreturnable $1500. For about a hundred bucks or so, if they f it up then I'm not out the drum money...they are.

Some dots cant be removed because if you try to clean them you will destroy surface of the drum.

It sounds like pin holes in the drum, if you look very close you can probably see them in the drum surface, nothing can be done except replacing the drum.

Most customers don't ever notice the small white dots.
