Canon PC 745 paper feed problem

I have a canon pc745 that will not feed paper due to a spring that has come off at the rear of the paper feed ass'y. Would anyone have this part of the service manual or parts diagram so I can see where the spring needs to go? It is sometimes obvious where it hooks to but not in this case. Thanks for any and all help.

Don't have a diagram, but I had the same problem. If you stand in the rear of the copier with the clamshell open, look towards the left of the upper portion of the clamshell and you will see the gear that applies drive to the feed assembly (it ratchets) that's where the spring goes.

It may be the first one but it is still hard to tell. Do you know of a diagram that can be found on the Internet. Thanks for the reply.

One end of the spring attaches to a metal bracket on the lower part of the machine towards the left back. It is obvious it keeps the tension of two gears meshing but I can't seem to see where the opposite end would hook. It hooks to something behind where the clam shell is still together. Not a great description I know but is there any diagrams on the net. I can usually find the needed diagrams on the net. Thanks for your reply.

There used to be a spring mounting point on those clamshells that used to break off. The point was behind the main circuit board on the back. You had to really gut the machine down to get to that area. We used to use a self tapping screw through the rear frame area where that spring used to mount to. If I recall correctly, it was the rear developer latching pivot that would break that lug.

Thankfully, the last one I had to repair was ages ago, senility may have altered my perception of that process, proceed at your own discretion based on that caveat...

canon_pc745_1.jpg: Broken plastic tab where spring used to attach.

Nice engineering, that was a different problem than the one I used to face, never had that one break on me,,, lucky me.

I printed everything and will attempt a look tomorrow to see if this is the fix. It sure sounds like this is why it is not responding.
