    Legal size doc output shift

Single-sided legal doc fed through ADF prints letter size portion shifted to bottom of legal sized output. But not all the time. Legal tray is selected. Scan from glass output ok. On ir5000. Any suggestions. thanks.

I think there's some auto scan feature or auto rotation option in the user menus you can turn off. Basically you don't want the machine trying to automatically determine anything, be it doc feeder or image size and orientation. Manually select everything, the paper drawer with the correct size, and original to copy output option if it has one. That's the simplest and probably most likely fix.

If that doesn't do it, it's possible that the image sizes or margins need adjusted in service mode.

When ON, the scan size is determined according to the detected original
      size.

Settings 0: OFF (default), 1: ON

Are your originals actually 14" long? Paper sizes called legal can vary from 13", 13 1/4", 13 1/2", 14", or with tear off 14 1/4".

The occasion I remember involved tear-off NCRs that were not separated at the perforation. The user pulled the glue apart leaving 14 1/4" originals, so the last 4 lines of their contracts were clipped off.
On another occasion it was a GMAC loan office that was faxing loan contracts in the standard GMAC 16 1/2" x 8 1/2" size. Once reduced to 11" x 8 1/2" it was unreadable. All I could suggest was to ask the recipients to load 14" paper, so that it was a 85% reduction rather than a 65% reduction. It wasn't a big improvement, but all I had to offer. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for the replies. It was in the user menu, under LTRr/Stmt: setting needs to be manual. Pesky little unintended consequences. Simple things first.

Glad you got it working and that is was something simple! Theoretically the machine on full auto should have been able to figure out what to do but at this point in my life, I've come to just accept a few things and be greatful when things aren't complicated or expensive.

what page in 5000 user manual is that manual setting ??

u said u were using the feeder/ all I see is a manual adj. for glass copies

Automatically Setting the Copy Ratio Based on the Original and Copy Paper Sizes (Auto)
The machine automatically selects the appropriate copy ratio based on the size of the originals and
              the selected paper.
The available copy ratios are from 25% to 400% when the original is placed on the platen glass, and
from 25% to 200% when the original is placed in the feeder.

IMPORTANTYou cannot use the Auto mode with Automatic Paper Selection. To use the Auto mode, your originals must conform to a standard paper size.
The paper sizes that can be used with Auto are 11"x17"/ LGL/ LTR/ LTRRDistinguishing LTRR-Size and STMT-Size Originals
When scanning LTRR size or STMT size originals set on the platen glass
