    Canon 6650II problem

I am fixing a Canon 6650II and everything works but the copies are coming out fuzzy, I mean the print (however nice, clean and dark). I rewired coronas, checked & cleaned everything (optics, etc) to no avail. Any good ideas?
Could it be the drum or the optics, or....?
    I appreciate any ideas..

The best thing I can suggest to you is dig a really really big hole, and push this old dinosaur into it. Then cover it up.

There are a wide variety of things that can cause quality issues on this machine, and you can't fix any of them without parts. Parts haven't been available for 6+ years.

Don't get me wrong. In 1992 this was a good solid machine. If you insist on diagnosing a machine you can't fix check:

    1) for a loose connector for the scanner motor on the motor driver PCB.
    2) shorting transfer charge.
    3) loose of stretched scanner cable.
    4) seizing main drive motor (typical life 1M).
    5) worn developer shift clutch.

    =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Did you clean the slit glass, between the drum and mirrors? it catches dust. Did you clean the mirrors to the right of the lens? Hope you are using proper toner. the primary grid is usually a problem with those too. Clean that the best you can. I don't care what anybody says, but windex works best to remove the ozone from the grids. Is your potential control turned on? Clean the drum after you check all these. Clean it with the proper drum cleaner not just alcohol. Does your drum look hazy? If not its probably ok. If its hazy and dull, then you probably wont clean that off. I think if you check the corona wires to make sure they are on the plastic notches in the corona assy correct, closest to the grid both ends of the assy., and check the slit glass, clean the mirrors to the right of the lens, turn potential control on, clean the primary grid, you should be good to go, unless you do have a weird problem. hard to tell without looking at the copy from where i am.

        Fuzzy ? 6650 II Blurry?

Old reliable, Ive still got some running. Well over a million copies, some two million plus. If the copy is blurry, but you aren't getting any error codes, you might try manually moving the lens. I've had a few go bad that way. On initial rotation they move enough to satisfy the HP sensor but fail to locate properly at 100%. The other thing I suggest is try copies with Potential control on and off. The biggest "Weird" problem with these machines are the damned Ultrex Connectors making lousy connections. Cleaning the connectors usually solves weird problems. I clean ASI drums with a mild bathtub scrub liquid like VIM and alcohol. Works great. Good luck.

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall the gear reduction stripping in the lens motor. Check to see if the lens can move out then back to home position. Don't try to move it manually. That can finish it off even if it wasn't damaged. =^..^=
