    FS-534 Stuck in up position

    Hello

We were relocating our KM 454e with it's FS-534 Finisher. We had the trays taken off to facilitate moving it where it needed to go and in the course of moving someone pulled up on the guide plate on the finisher. It is now stuck in the top most position and I cannot see how to get it to go back down. I have looked for some kind of manual release but came up short. I also tried turning it on to see if it would put itself back in it's "home" position but that also failed and only made a lot of knocking noises as it continued to try and go up. Any insight on how to make this go back down would be very helpful. Also happy to provide more info if needed.

Hey guys. Thanks for the response.

I have taken a good chunk of the plastic outer shell off so I can see what I am doing and I believe I found the gear you a referring to. Imgur: The magic of the Internet

My next question may seem dumb but how do I actually go about unwinding this. I just want to make sure I do not break it any more in the process.

        Thanks again for any help.

The cylindrical motor with the black wiring harness in the top of your picture has a worm gear on it. Rotate that worm gear by hand. Just press your finger against it and push so that it spins. If the tray seems to be lifting, rotate the other direction. Takes a lot of rotations for a small amount of motion but just keep at it until the tray lowers below the upper limit switch.

There will be a motor with a brass coloured worm drive turning the gears in your picture.

Turn it by hand and see which way the support bar goes.

If it’s going up, turn the gear the other way until you see it going down.

Wind it down about 100mm or so (this will take a quite a while due to the gearing).

            Then reassemble as previously described.

Looks like myself and Darry 1322 posted at the same time! Good to have two techs tell you the same thing though....

You are a lifesaver. That worked great. I tried turning everything but that little guy not thinking something so small could have such great effects.

It is now back to a level I can put the tray on so hopefully it works when I hook it back up!

              Thanks again!

IIRC, you can also just turn on the machine while actuating the paper stack sensor where the exit tray should be. Hold down the little fins/actuator and the tray should begin to descend, then open the finisher door or shut off the power switch and install the exit trays.

To give some closure on this. Got it all hooked back up and attached to the copier and works like a charm. Thanks again for the help!

There are at least 3 ways to lower the elevator tray:

You can manually rotate the elevator motor to lower the tray.

                    Elevator.jpg

You can block the upper limit sensor during initialization to force the tray to lower. Just unblock the sensor when it has lowered a few inches.

                    Upper Limit.jpg

Or you can run the elevator tray motor in the service mode: Service Mode > FS-FN Adjustment > Finisher Components Test Mode > Finisher Components Test Mode 1 > Main Tray Up/Down Motor press Stop when it has lowered a few inches.
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: FS-534 Stuck in up position

I've had this a few times where I forgot to put tray on and it travels past upper limit and makes a heck of a loud noise! Loud enough you would think it will never work again. And the look on the customers face when this happens when setting up new machine in their office is priceless

Not sure if someone else posted this but I take back cover off and turn the black plastic wheel at top with cutouts that goes in between photo sensor. It takes about 5 mins worth of spinning the wheel because it moves slow. Also do this to lower bracket so you can but the tray on when getting from wholesaler. Before they ship they remove the tray and during shipping the bracket moves up so when you get finisher tray wont go on until you lower, real PIA
