BizHub C558 Misfeed Detected on Scan&copy, but no misfeed. Error Code: 66-02

Hello - Having the following issue on a BizHub C558. When using the document feeder for scanning or copying a single or multiple sheets, we are receiving misfeed detected error code: 66-02. We don't receive the error until the document feeder has finished scanning all of the pages. The document feeder appears to be functioning properly, no jams/misfeeds have occurred. However, we are still consistently receiving the error.

In order to reset the error, we open and shut the top compartment of document feeder. It will not complete the job because it request to reload originals and the error re-occurs.

Almost seems like the machine is not sensing the paper exiting the feed.

Has anyone experienced this issue?

The obvious thing to me, would be a dirty sensor, so it thinks that there's still paper there

The first thing I would do is see the parts counter
the separation roller and feed roller last 300K
Then try scanning but with the thin paper option so the scanning speed goes down
If the jam code does not occur there
Then the problem would be in the separation roller
It would be necessary to rewrite the fw to a current version

Grab an air can and blast the hell out of every single sensor in the paper path. clean the rollers with IPA and try again

The fact DF has no physical Jams, doesn't mean it's working properly.
Did you follow manual and test after separate sensor (PS4) in I/O check?

WalterJ - Thank you for the response. The machine is pretty new, the total count is only 7k. I just tested with thin paper selected and got the same misfeed error.

Kingarthur & Synthol - Thank you for the responses. With dry compressed air, I blew out the document feeder and sensors. All rollers & sensors look very clean.

Tsbservice - Thank you for the information. We do not have the service manual for this unit. I will see if I can find one and try your suggestion.

Sounds like the document feeder empty sensor is dropping too slow..The sensor must be working or you would not be able to start a ADF feed, but as the last sheet goes through the sensor flag is not dropping into its empty position, the ADF thinks another sheet is present and, of course, no paper went through, so it must be jammed. E

On the C558 there isn't a sensor flag, on this RADF the tray lifts up to the rollers, unlike the smaller machines, where the rollers come down, those RADFs have a magnet on the actuator to hold it in position, when these magnets fall out, you get constant J66-02 when the last sheet has gone through, on the C558 there's a "reflective" sensor in the infeed paper tray....that's the sensor that needs to be looked at, it's either dirty or faulty, or open up the top cover and check that there's nothing stuck to it, that the sensor may be picking up

Once it has taken the paper, do the rollers still spin?


Sometimes, during transport, some sensors may like off and give incorrect values.

Kingarthur - Your correct the RADF the tray lifts up to the rollers, holds in position the paper feeds through with no issues, then the tray lowers. Once the tray is lowered we receive the misfeed detected code 66-02. If the reflective sensor in the infeed paper tray was dirty or faulty would the tray still lower from the rollers?

Any other thoughts? The RADF lifts and feeds the paper with no issues once all the papers go through the RADF lowers and the error then appears.

Take the Doc tray and lift up, towards front cover there is a boss, pull back and manipulate the Doc tray in a 90 degree angle, there is an optical eye on the underside of the tray, clean that sensor and your issues will go away. Most likely never cleaned as it is not an easily accessible sensor unless you are looking for it.

Just wanted to chime on this. Today I found it on C458 with J66-02 this flag out of place, black plastic flag you reach it when open documents tray. No need to remove single screw only 3 clips.

I have to correct myself on this one. I was under impression that problem solved after extensive testing... however few days later call come back. It was indeed dirty (buried with paper dust) paper present reflective sensor. Full credit and kudos kingarthur. You da man!
