    Biz 808 tray 4

Tray 4 opens to far and paper feed assembly lifts normally but drops back down once tray is past a certain point. It's suppose to stay up when tray open, load paper and when you close tray paper feed assembly drops down. From what I could see tray is opening a few inches to much. Rails, etc seem fine. This wouldn't be a problem in a regular office where I could tell a few people to lift up PF assy when loading paper, but...this is at a place school teachers make their copies for the district. They try to put paper in without lifting pf assy which knocks it out of place and jams! Teachers have been discussed on this forum many times. If not mistaken teachers were voted worst copier end users, with car salesman right behind them....

    Any ideas appreciated,
    Thanks in advance

As rrohan pointed out, there is supposed to be a screw in each rail for the drawer. In order to change out the tires in the feed unit, a tech has to remove both screws so that the drawer comes out that extra bit to access the rear screw on the feed unit assembly for removal. A lot of times these get left out, or they get installed incorrectly and they end up on the wrong side of the stopper which has the same results as them not being installed at all.

If tray 3 operates properly, pull out the tray all the way and about dead center in the rail (see included picture) will be a small screw on both rails for the drawer. They are very short screws, so if they are missing from the tray 4 rails, you could remove 1 screw from the tray 3 rail and install it into one of the tray 4 rails if need be. When installing, the drawer needs to be pushed in slightly to make sure the screw ends up on the correct side of the stopper. If the screws are in tray 4, just loosen them, push the tray in a bit and re-tighten and it should stop where it is supposed to after that.

Thanks rrrohan and femaster. I didn't see any screws on outside rail, only 3 small special screws in recessed holes. So it has to be it needs that screw in picture. Thanks again for the help!

1st, those lift cables get funky and dont sit on the spool right that has caused that symptom
2nd, honestly those extra scews mean nothing, ive left them out since the Di days, they only allow the try to be pulled out so far so the trays dont sag.
3rd, hold the drawer in not with huge force but just a bit to see if the coupling at the back is engaging properly.
use needle nose vice grips and turn the shaft that lifts the tray and make sure it lifts evenly, this can steer you to a cable issue quickly.
one of these ideas i hope steer you in the right path.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
          The medication helps though...

I too have been removing those screws for years. I have a nice pile of them in the bottom of my tool bag. I ran into an 808 with this exact issue 2 weeks ago. The 808 specifically (possibly the C759 as well, can not confirm) has a feed assembly flipper on the machine side. When the tray is fully extended with the screws out, it drops lower than normal and interferes with the tray closing. I just reached into the bottom of my bag and installed 1 screw on the right side because I didn't feel like contorting myself into a pretzel to get the left one in. I'm too old for that sh*t!
