bizhub 4050 Direct print from USB not showing

    Hi.
I just acquired decommissioned Bizhub 4050 and I have been fixing and learning about this machine past few days. There is one feature I cannot get working. I cannot get direct print from USB working. According to user manual, it is supposed to be under "Document Print / Delete" menu, but "External Memory" button is not showing up under this menu.
Only setting I know will affect this function is under "Administrator Settings/System Settings/Folder Settings/External Memory Function Settings/Print Document" and this is set to "ON".

Are there any other settings that I need to check?
Does it require newer firmware for it to work? This copier's current firmware version is A6F730G0902WATP

There are also few other issues/concerns.
When I got this copier, it had D093 error and I found issue was with HDD itself and HDD caddy. Caddy had broken solder joints on SATA connector and HDD itself was BIOS locked. Since I didn't have 320GB HDD on hand, I put 500GB HDD instead. Printer detected HDD fine and it partitioned and formatted HDD. However, it only shows 256720MB when checked under service menu. When I check partitions on a PC, I see only 250GB is used and rest is unpartitioned.
Is this normal with 320GB HDD as well? Or, do I have to put 320GB HDD to use full capacity?

Another issue is with time and date setting getting lost when power is turned off for a while. I figured out there is a small rechargeable lithium battery on control board. How long does it take this battery to get fully charged? I had this copier powered for about 12 hours, but lost time setting after being turned off overnight. Does it take longer to charge or is this battery gone bad and not holding charge anymore? I can get replacement battery from digikey, but since shipping is way more than the part, I want to make sure it is bad first.

Not sure about the HDD. We always use the 320gb. You should be fine with 250gb. HDD on copier isn't used to store that much data like a computer HDD. Mostly used for temporary holding scans, etc then deleted after job complete.

You need to change battery. Very easy to do. They are sold through companies like DigiKey. You can leave copier on for a year and battery will still be dead as soon as you turn machine off. The battery is only used when machine is off to retain time/date, etc

Does printer use full capacity of 320GB HDD if 320GB HDD is installed? Not that it matters for what I will going to use this copier for anyway, but just curious.

This printer has very low print count (493 pages when I got it) and it has manufacturing date of 2014. So, it must have been used for short term then just left is storage somewhere for long time. That probably contributed to battery failure from deep discharge.

Now, I just have to figure out why there is no option to print directly from external memory.
Can anyone share latest firmware that I can try to see if that brings up this option?

Most KMs have options in admin menu to enable/disable print/scan from external USB. Can't be sure for 4050 as its engine is Lexmark. I would dig in admin security settings for it.

There is a option, but it is already enabled. I'm thinking there may be a setting in software switch, but I couldn't find anything that relates to external memory access.

Not really but this isn't KM so firmware updates are a bit different.

I'm not sure what you mean. The copier works, so it does boot firmware.
I just can't figure out why button for print from external memory is not showing up.

i guess im asking if it sees any usb drive at all at any time or just refuses to print.
id check the cable from the front to the board where it plugs into.

It sees USB drive just fine. Scan to external memory (USB) works. I am also able to save configuration to USB in administrator menu and service menu.

what file format are you trying to print?
                      have you tried different ones?
                      very weird.
so there is no beep or message that comes up when you plug in the drive recognizing it?
im so unfamiliar with this rebadged model, all my konica knowledge is ueless.
ive searched the manual too and usb printing is either on or off and pretty straightforward and you have already checked that.

                        Mostly PDF and doc files.
I have tried 3 different drives of varying sizes.
It reconizes USB is plugged and shows a little USB icon at top right corner.
Yet, direct print does not show up.

It is not critical to have this function, but would be nice to have it.

It is not possible to hit external memory icon. It is just an indicator.
Under Document Print, there should be print to external memory, but it is not showing.

                            Scan to External Memory works.

"Print Document" is set to "ON" , which is also default setting.
