C3350i, again C-2251 code, sucking down Cyan toner...

Hey guys. So, evidently, the F/W that excessively agitates the drum units doesn't always fix the problem. I know that KM changed the drum units (at some point) but I don't know how to designate between them, because I can't find the bulletin right now. Has anyone had any luck with agitating them and shaking them upside down to try to get that toner/developer moving? I'm going to take one out today and try it, then go out to this customer.

we don't let our customers install imaging units. We have our techs shake and rotate manually before installing. Just make sure to rotate in proper direction

I don't officially know if this is an easy way to differentiate between the old and new style, but I noticed that the older image units had a brown colored drum and all the ones we've been receiving more recently have had a green colored drum.

Also, what I do is store our backup image units upside down. Not sure if this helps out of not, but it can't hurt. It can't compact to the bottom of the channel on top of the sensor if it's not even touching the bottom. In addition, prior to installing, I have our techs flip them upside down and lightly tap on the bottoms of the image units with the handle of a screwdriver that has a "rubberized" (soft) grip on it in order to hopefully free up any developer mix that might have been stuck due to sitting on the shelf at the distribution center before we received it. Since we implemented this, we really haven't had any further issues.

My Ricoh knowledge is slowly dwindling away at this point. Many things have been lost to time...

Thanks for mentioning! - will take these precautions from now on.
