Strange smudges on printing backside in KM C258

    Hi there,

This seems to be the most intriguing and unique problem with our Konica Minolta C258. And, thank you for taking out time to read this. So here it goes,

    Scenario:

We were printing some ruled pages for one of our clients, who had this small greenish-blue logo on the bottom right. We were initially printing first sides first and then back sides next.

    Here are the sheet specifications:

    Sheet: A4, 70 GSM
    Tray: Tray 1
Printing Content: Ruled pages with bottom right logo(greenish-blue). All this at 600 dpi, photo settings
Printing Manner: First one side and then back side of the sheet. No Duplex

Now, here is the MOST MOST baffling problem we faced.

The first side print of the sheet comes out without any issue, however, when we put those one sided printed sheets back in the tray 1 for second side printing, smudges appear with the print on the right side of the sheet

Now, exactly the same smudges are there on the sheets lying in the tray1 but those are in powder form and can be removed using an eraser.

Please refer to the pics and if I am not clear, please let me know and I will explain accordingly.

Thanks again for reading and would be glad if anyone can help. Even tech team from Konica has not been able to resolve this yet :-(

if you are printing one one side, then putting the pages back in the tray, these marks are from where the rollers are "gripping" the paper, and the ink from the already printed side is transferring to the next page. It's actually quite common. Why are you printing one side, then "re-using" the paper, why not print both sides at the same time.
Tip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...

Agree. In addition to what kingarthur already said try different normal paper.

as a test load the paper landscape and try again, if the smudges move its something physical in the machine, if the smudges stay in the same spot its likely something in the image.
        just something to try

The smudges are stuck on the fuser rollers when making the first side.
You can try cleaning them by bassing a few plain papers or increase the paper thickness

Re: Strange smudges on printing backside in KM C258

            Hello everybody

Let me start by saying I specialise in Ricoh machines so please forgive me if I'm out of place.

I would like to suggest the following

            1) What the other techs said is sounding correct. Rollers and fuser unit seem at cause for the fault. It is better to use the machines duplex function for duplex prints. Therefore 1st cause of marks might be from the feed area leading up to registration. That includes rollers and feeds.

            2) Fully major service the machine with full cleaning of all your rollers and your fuser unit.
Inspect your fuser wear and build up of dirt. Rollers / belts may look good but could still have a build up.

            3) Stop your machine mid-cycle.
If the problem still persists stop your machine in mid-cycle, then have a look at the image and if you can still see the marks. By doing this it will give you a better idea of where the marks at coming from.

Please be careful when doing any of these. This should be done by a service professional

            All the best friend
