glad you are making progress, did you select LPD port 515 and Print as the Queue name?
sometimes even a 1mm or 16th of an inch of the adjustment makes a difference in those VR sensors.

also command workstation allows you to transfer over the whole file and let the Fiery rip and spool it and add finishing options if wanted.
much faster than spooling on the local HDD.

there may be an option in the driver to NOT spool jobs on the local HDD, been a while since i saw MAC print properties windows!
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
    The medication helps though...

Well, I did not care about any special LPD port. Should there be a difference if selecting especially 515? And to be honest, I do not understand what you mean by "Print as the Queue name". But in general I am fine with Bonjour or even AppleTalk for our older computers. It seems that there is nothing spooled at the local machines and everything sent directly to the Fiery, while I could not find any options at LPD (TCP/IP) in the driver to not spool locally. But that may be connected to the driver version I am using? If somebody has something better than the 35C-KM PS v2.01 drivers for our IC-402 Fiery (X3eTY) please let me know!

Regarding CWS I would like to give it a try, but I would need an old version for our old Macs.

In general; should we make an own thread if now discussing drivers and network settings of the Fiery instead of the initial C450 tray questions? What is appreciated at the forum here?

        beer and patience

navigate to the fiery web page via browser, download command ws and install, likely ver 2 or 3 on that old girl.

Fierys host 3 print queues on port 515, Print, Direct and Hold.
you can send prints to any of those queues,"Print" will do just that and save a copy on the Fiery HDD until enough new jobs bump it off the queue.
"Direct" will print what you send without saving a copy and "Hold" will drop the job in the hold queue and you modify/reprint/add finishing options etc without printing yet.

you can send proof prints from the hold queue before releasing the whole job, rearrange pages within the doc etc...

i just really like fierys, i have 6 of them in my basement, i converted them to file/web servers.

look at post #4 in this thread, MACs will have a similar field to enter IP and port name.
if it prints slow try the way it was designed, may be faster.

And what agism against my C450, it is getting 20 years old in a few months not 30!

I was thinking about the 450Z, that has to be 30+ years old! Guess my mind blocked out the C450/C550/C650. I didn't work on many of these models.

450z? does your oven still smell like a baked power supply? lol. (that used to fix them, i swear)(who's the old fart now?)
i remember the BHCx50 as nightmares CF cards and MKCF crap. so glad they moved to USB installs.

Do you know guys, that you are funny?

Regarding CWS, I had to use an old webbrowser with Java, and could than use the website the Firey is offering for the LAN. You are right, there was an CWS version 1.3 for downloading. In general configuring the Firey from the webbrowser is much more comftable than at the C450 diplay. Thanks! I need to get an even older webbrowser with Flash, there seem to be some options at the website that need Flash, … CWS looks cool and professional. For us it is perhaps kind of overkill. Usually we are not sending a lot of jobs at the same time. But perhaps the possibility of proof prints has some value for us. Let's see, I have to get used to CWS.

Regarding the queues; thanks for the detailed explenation. I know them from AppleTalk and was always wondering about them.

In general the situation about the drivers is a little bit wired. The last days when I played around with the LPD, I lost some options, e.g. for "image offset" in the "printer properties" drop down menue of the printer dialouge. Now that I downloaded everything from the Firey and installed the packages "JobProperties" and "Harmony" (whatever they really do, as there is no driver or program after installing), and installing the programs ColourWise, CWS, HotFolders and RemoteScan, there are all options back in the printing dialouge. But now as own drop down menues! I now have the option to activate bidirectional in the new dropdown menue "Printer Information" inside the printing dialouge, like you mentioned. Before there was no such option. Perhaps it was installed with CWS or any other package, and not with the driver.
On the other hand I lost the option of keeping the values in the "Paper Offset" dialouge like it was before when it was a point in the "Printer Properties" dropdown meneu. That means annoying reset of the offset at every print, … :-/
I switched back and forth between the PS v2.01 and PS v1.0 drivers but never got the other "Paper Offset" dialouge again. Strange. Is v2.01 really the latest driver?

But in general it feels very nice to move slowly foreward, and it is a little bit like having a new mavchine around.
