    C3350i swapping image units?

Can a used C3350i K image unit be used in another machine? maybe swap chips? I odered a new unit but wanted to get customer going until new IU is delivered. There is a new toner but prints got lighter and lighter and can hardly read them now. Did toner add in service mode but didn't help. When I hold shutter open and turn gear on toner box no toner drops out?
    Thanks in advance

You can get replacement chips, but there was a post previously about fitting a used dv unit to either an "e" or "8" series, where the poster said to fit the chip from the original unit into the replacement, as that would have the correct dev levels - however, whether it would work in these devices.....

      Thanks king for the reply

I will try swapping IU chips for now. Will report back with results.

Still trying to figure out how toner drops from the toner cartridge. Tried turning gears on a new toner and none comes out. You can see sponge roller blocking hole?

If the level on the original chip wasn't correct it would throw an error which means its fine to use a brand new chip as it will have the same levels. The only difference is the consumable life will be reset with a new chip.

Personally wouldn't recommend doing this as for us whenever we've done it it causes adding toner messages constantly.

I've had those toners lock up before, I couldn't actually turn the gears, I had to hit the desk with it a couple of times to loosen it up. Another problem I've had, a couple of times, the gear that turns the toner cartridge, has a spring and a washer, it's a bit like a one way clutch, that spring has failed. you should only be able to turn it one way, if it turns both ways, it's knackered and it won't add toner. It's a total PIA to fit.

Parts 10 & 11, they actually look the wrong way round on this diagram

First thing first - at what level are your TCRs?
Those models are so wicked even without someone playing with IUs, chips, etc.
I wouldn't recommend it. Better check last post of kingarthur

Update: Customer was using aftermarket toner. K IU level was 8% but prints still very light. I swapped IU chips and put used IU in, level history was less than 1%. Installed genuine K toner. Added K toner in service mode until level was around 6%. Did gradation adjustment. Ran 50 K halftones and level stayed at 6%. All good now but will have drum early next week if needed.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Hope this helps someone who has this same issue.
