C3350i adf rollers that dont lock in upright position

    Anyone else dealing with this?

Replacing the pickup assy is a quick fix, though expensive and it only lasts a few thousand pages before it starts again.

Trimming 4 loops off the hook spring that the rollers lock up into is a permanent fix but a pain in the ass.

Is there a substitute hook spring that can be pushed in without pulling the top door apart that anyone is aware of? Or some other easier solution...

Interesting. Have quite a few of these out in the field and so far have not come across this problem.

The older models (C3#50, C3#51) and their crappy limited slip junk plastic 4-prong trash setup were a major PIA however. Those were constantly giving out and failing to lift. Not really any way to fix those without replacement.

My Ricoh knowledge is slowly dwindling away at this point. Many things have been lost to time...

Are you referring to trimming the spring in the adf cover / feed roller unit assy? Lubricating it doesn't help?

Only thing I have had on these ADF's is that the driving and driven exit rollers gets separated when the top door opens to remove jams. The small metal plates on each side wears out causing the paper not to exit the DF.

Nothing a small file can't fix.
        Whatever

We see the pickup/feed assembly not returning to the up position an awful lot. Easy to remove the pu assembly, just flip up the 2 white tabs and it comes right out. Then I remove the eclip and take the spring clutch apart and throw the spring in a cup to soak in WD40. Then before I reinstall it, I coat the inside of the spring with triflow lubricant. Seems like they used a spring that is way more heavy duty than necessary. Especially since it rides on a plastic hub instead of a metal one like the old days. I have not tried simply cutting/trimming that spring like EarthKMtech yet.

When a full size Konica is not possible, these units are ok, for a very space limited office environment, they were a frustrating hot mess of a nightmare upon first release, but the latest FW seems to have helped the initial image unit issues to a large extent.

They are still way better than the small HP color machines in spite of all the issues we see with the C3320i/C3350i/C4050i series.

For B&W, the Konica 4020i/5020i's have been great for our space limited customers. Pretty bulletproof. The new 4020i/5020i's have one issue right out of the box though. The starter toner was not sealed well like a new toner and about 1/3 of the time a new unit makes dirty prints. Replacing it with a new sealed oem toner resolves that though.

On the filthy minesites i look after, my above mentioned mod has been a hit. Every modified machine with lessened spring pressure on that stupid retaining hook has never had the issue again. I'm changing the feed assy and sep roller only when bald now. I am also seeing all imaging units lasting life since drill mixing all of them drum side down from new. The revised IU should be hitting the shelves soon if not already anyway.
