Fiery IC 420 on C450I Method A connection problems.

New setup out of box problem. Using Method A connection Fiery goes 00 and connection is established with MFP but Fiery app button produces an error message "Failed to Connect to Controller device Confirm the network settings"

Software version 2.0 and MFP is current firmware G00-N5 AA2J

I Could sometimes get it work intermittently but once it's turned off then back on problem comes up again. No network connection error message but fiery is connected to mfp ok.

Reviewed and confirmed tech bulletins 56148 and 56564 from KM, SSD has been no help so far I'm waiting on an expert to call.

Tried Method B and could get it connected but that's not the preferred method because machine functions will be limited.

I'm trying to re-image with System Software but that process changed from 1.0 to 2.0 and the documentation is clear as mud, has anyone done a system software re-image on IC-420? What am I missing?

Please see attached photo for error. IMG_1544.jpg

If you are using connection A, what is the IP displayed in device info? And BTW the Fiery does not prohibit any MFP functions (with maybe the exception of Vcare in a small %). Not setting the Fiery up correctly will cause mainly scanning issues. DNS, Time and Date, SSL..any of these can cause connection issues. With the 420, software is put on a USB by the Fiery Installer Builder. You need a EFI sales portal login, but the tool downloads and preps the USB as a boot device. Includes the latest image with many patches. Good tool to know how to use. E

      1. IP address info is never displayed fiery cannot be seen on the network to view or configure. Neither through Command or a network scan tool did not resolve an IP. Can't get to the fiery to configure anything.

      2. Method B, MFP controller limitations IPv6, IPsec, browsing for file transmissions (SMB), and replies to broadcasts which could be handled by Fiery but in the environment it's going I'd rather use the MFP. Only a few users are going to print through the fiery. Plus i like to have a functioning 2nd controller setup in case the fiery crashes customer.

      3. Created USB boot device with Fiery Installer builder and yes It's a real nice tool. Except the fiery is not taking it. IC420 ver1.0 SM says to change dip sw into service mode like other that I've done. But IC420 2.0 service manual doesn't mention anything about it. Did you just stick into fiery and hit the switch, does that work for you?

      4. Suggested DHCP method A out of box setup instructions should not be this difficult, thanks for the suggestions.

did you enable the web browser on the copier first before doing anything?
redoing system software on a new install is crazy especially if it goes to 00 on the led.

you could have used a laptop and CWS for the initial setup.
the initial fiery IP is likely 172.17.254.1 IIRC.

i have had 3 or 4 bad VI boards cause it too.
just reflash the fiery with the system disk provided (once you run the USB app to write the bootable system)
the box it came in has the initial password on it, hope its not in the bin.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
        The medication helps though...

Re: Fiery IC 420 on C450I Method A connection problems.

This is how it should work on a new install..

Assuming everything is actually working and installed correctly (can't account for tech errors)

          For models C450i; C360i/C300i/C250i>
          • To use the Image Controller IC-420, this option
(VI-516) and the Upgrade Kit UK-115 are required

          Image controller set to 1
          Web browser enabled
          DHCP enabled

          Turn MFP off

Turn Controller ON. wait 5 min, then turn MFP on. The controller does not need to be on the network at this time..WAIT!!! for MFP to spit out Fiery startup page. Some take 45 min or longer on 1st try.

Once you have a start sheet you should be able to access the Fiery from the control panel..Follow the original setup steps in order. Once this is done you can assign IP for the controller and in most cases check obtain IP for engine..This should assign the next successive IP for the emperon, but you will not see it in the MFP IP settings..Use a laptop to open the Fiery web page and then the emperon. Fiery default password is now a mix of mac and bios S/N and is printed on 2nd sheet of config sheet. On the MFP verify date and time match on the controller, and there are some tech tips that say disable SMB 3.0.. (I think). Ensure MFP is at latest F/W and function version. Disable marketplace, it is not needed..It takes over the web browser and I hate it. E

            Follow up with final resolve.

Finally I was able to re-image fiery with 2.0 using a different USB stick PNY 16GB. Fiery responded as normal and DHCP an IP address with no problem. Factory image certainly was the issue in how flaky it was acting and not DHCP'ng and the constant failures to connect with MFP.

Thanks again for all the responses and tips!

Attached are instructions on hooking a Fiery up to an 8 series . They also work on the i-series . Follow the one page document first.
