Good decision, interested in what tech rep will say.

Not sure if this is related to the loud banging/juddering noise some customers have reported. Sounds like a jackhammer. Anyone else had this?

We rebuild the fusers using the film kits. Its happened before where a tech messes up the cam lever position for the retraction. The sound is supper loud and the gear in the picture will loose some teeth.
Try to replace that gear... Seems simple until you need to do it.
Whatever

Same, fresh out of the box, with no obvious box damage or machine damage.

I'm wondering if maybe the 2 we had were man handled a bit on the delivery truck or at the warehouse.

This was the issue. When closely inspected we could clearly tell that the inner framework for mounting was ever so slightly askew. It actually popped the exhaust fan out of its housing port. I'm not sure if we are gonna try to muscle it, or just return it for a new machine since this is a brand spanking new C250i with no copies on it. The box and everything was pristine from shipment, so who knows how it happened. And for anyone invested in this little adventure, Konica tech line helped none, they couldn't grasp the issue at hand for some reason.

Noise problem is hardest to diagnose especially on phone by tech support. Unless they acknowledge to know of bend in factory frames which they never will.
But I completely agree we in the field have way more experience and solutions.

Not surprised to hear you hit a dead end with K/M tech support hotline. What a waste that help line is. Not sure if technicians even man those lines or it's regular people who look up symptom on knowledge base the same as dealer can do. I can't remember last time I've received sound advice from them. They have been blaming the main board for everything the last 40+ years
And to make it worse the Jap's will not admit to a problem until they have a solution for it. They could least say we are working on it!
On the other hand the District Techs that visit dealers to help with issues are usually really good. Guess it helps visiting many dealers and seeing same issue over and over again. It's usually a tech in the field that finds a solution, not Japan.

The couple we've had were also new out of the box, and the boxes looked perfect. The machines it happened on were ones that we had been waiting on for a long time and the customers were already very impatient. The head boss wasn't going to wait longer, and potentially loose the sale, so we had no choice but to man-handle the drive unit a bit in order to make it work correctly.

Either that or is designed that way on purpose in case the fuser unit seized up for any reason? Like large foreign object or failure, that way tech can fix it in the field because sheet metal bent, but plastic gears are spared utter destruction??

What will we sacrifice, a slightly warped frame or shattered gears? The warped frame can be reformed, but there isn't much you can do for shattered gears. Yes, it sounds like a manufacturing compromise. In the next iteration of this model the fix will be built in, and hopefully backward compatible. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
