    Bizhub C220 paper jam

My C220 will not feed paper - it says it has a paper jam at position 1. Position 1 is as it leaves the paper tray. It feeds the paper a tiny amount then stops with the error. Needless to say there are no paper scraps or a real jam and the paper is good paper.

Where do I find the error codes to see in depth what is causing this? And it seems that others have had this problem. I have looked through all of the C220 posts before stating the thread.

    Thanks

      Replace 3 rollers, 2 one-ways and 1 torque limiter.

Look for broken tab on the spring loaded clear plastic guide. When one or both tabs break guide doesn't sit right and causes paper to jam.

Have had the paper feed mechanism out (undo 4 screws) and it seems OK with no broken parts or paper stuck in it. I'm wondering about a sensor or clutch. It must go through the motions on turning the rollers etc to feed the paper and very early in the piece something tells it that the paper has not fed. It only feeds it about a half inch before it stops.

Can I find the error codes in detail to tell me exactly what told it to stop? It could be a connection, clogged or jammed sensor or even a failed sensor.

It is an old machine but like its owner still works very well when it does and I have just replaced the magenta developer so I am invested. However if proves too intractable it may end up at the dump or "Community Recycling Centre" in correct modern parlance. Especially as we are moving house and I sm under some pressure to scale down,.

While it is highly advised to rebuild the feed unit with the parts that have been previously posted, depending upon what the actual problem is, you might be able to temporarily get away with a free fix. If the tires (rollers) are worn it will only be a temporary fix, but will at least possibly confirm where your problem lies.

Without replacing parts you should, at the BARE MINIMUM, remove the feed unit of the jamming tray, pull it apart and use something mildly abrasive (like a green Scotch Bright pad, NO SANDPAPER!) and scuff up each of the shafts under the two one way bearings. The image link below will show you what they look like. What you are likely to see is that the shaft under each of those bearings will have a mirror like finish. You need to scuff the shaft in order to get rid of the mirror finish so that the one way bearings can grip the shaft properly in order to feed the paper. Ruling out anything else like worn tires, slipping clutch, etc., the odds are very good that the one ways are slipping on the shaft so the feed tires (rollers) are not spinning the whole time resulting in your jam.
