    C554e jam code 30-03

I've read the bulletin about this code and other posts about this code. I replaced CL8 exit clutch and it was good for awhile now machine is jamming again with same 30-03 code. Customer left tray 1 & 2 empty and machine is working good from tray 3 & 4. Any idea why jams with 30-03 code would only happen from top 2 trays?

    Any help appreciated?

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like registration section bushings may be gummed up, paper hits registration slightly different when coming from upper trays. I would get one from working shop machine and try it.

Not specific to trays #1 & #2 ... but I have seen J30-03 jams as a result of:

*"mustache" defect: piercing of the primary transfer belt
*fuser roller bearings siezing, and the consequent squealing and rust.
*fuser jammed up with three accordian jams the enduser makes no attempt to remove.
      *very heavy fill images
*heavy toner buildup on the fuser inner exit guide.
*defective PS3 (A108 M501 00). Replacement sensor looks different, but works (type "SG").

This last one is extremely unusual, and happened twice on the same machine, a year apart. It was in a school main office with a whole wall of 8' tall glass windows along the south wall. In the early morning it was so blindingly bright in that room, I initially concluded that the sunlight was somehow making it into photointerrupter PS3's receiver. I was wrong, but the intermittent nature of the problem made it very difficult to diagnose. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

From my expirience in 90% of cases problem is *very heavy fill images in combination with small margin on the leading edge of paper.

+1. Use to strip out the roller and clean out the bushings. Now I use a can of plastic and rubber friendly electronic cleaner and flush the gunk out in place. Even the PS sensor gets flushed out with it.
