    Bizhub 28e printing artifacts

Full disclosure, it's actual a Muratec MFX-3595. Aside from the color screen and stapler, they're essentially the same model. When I print, copy, or print from internal memory I'm getting an artifact on the pages. When I take a clean page and scan it to email, it's coming in without said artifact on the scan. I'm attaching samples. I'm leaning into it being the PCB Main, but wanted to know if anyone has ever encountered anything like this.

If you print with paper in the other orientation do the marks change direction

It's an a4 machine. Can only feed the paper landscape.

Not saying this is your problem, but we recently had a 28e, with all of approximately 16K pages on it, that had a problem that looked very similar to your samples. It started out with only a couple lines, but over the course of about a week of troubleshooting, it had grown to affect the whole left half of the page, and looked very similar to your samples.

Initially it looked like an issue with the drum with lines on the pages. It was nearly EOL anyway, so we replaced that and it resolved the issue for a few days. Customer called back and said that it was still doing the same thing, but worse. Lines again with some "dirty" areas on the pages, but even more this time. Samples genuinely looked like another bad drum, so we replaced with another new one, which resolved the issue again. Three days go by, another call, even worse this time. Third time out, and this time it was pretty obvious that it wasn't the drum. It still had lines, but also had the same repeating "digital" image like in your samples. After cleaning the print head and re-seating the ribbon cable with no luck, we were considering the Main board, but weren't sure what kind of problem would result from swapping in a used board from another machine. We decided to try the print head out of a parts 25e that we had first. Installed that, everything looked good again, and it's been over 3 weeks now with no return calls from the customer.

If you decide to go that route, I will warn you ahead of time... The "print head" is just a bar (LED I believe) similar to those found on the old C351 style machines. It is in a very inconvenient location, just behind the drum, and under the fuser (removal of both is required). It is spring loaded (5 springs) and has a single screw with small plastic piece that holds it in place. It is connected to the copier by a small (and short!) ribbon cable in the rear of the machine. The ribbon cable is held to the back of the print head with a plastic "flip" style latch on the socket. It's really easy to get the cable off the print head, but is a PIA to get the cable back in straight and still be able to latch that locking tab and then insert the head into it's holder with all 5 springs still in place, all the while holding the print head in place and attempting to reinstall the plastic holder and single screw...

I agree with femaster, looks like digital lines . I would also go with print head and or the ribbon cable

I've replaced the print head before on this model. It was a huge pain, but you all are probably right. Guess I'll start with that. Thanks for the input.

Yes I've had this problem before on a 28e. Definitely the printhead (LED strip). I didn't think replacing it was that bad. Easier than replacing a printhead on most other smaller machines. Replaced one on a 4752 recently. That was a PIA.

Tried the print head this morning. So far so good. I'm really hoping that is the end of it, replacing that ribbon cable is awful.
