    Re: Formatting HDD - c754e - Locked at 100%

    Sharing experience.

    I have a 754 Black in operation.
One fine day, C-D012. Disable HDD.
It worked fine until we got back with a new HDD.
On this day, after replacing and formatting, it froze at 99%.
It does not let you disable HDD, it freezes at 99% in logical or physical formatting.
Even without the HDD, she says she has the HDD, does the formatting procedure and freezes at 99% and does not let it disable.
    We ordered new MFPB. Waiting...

When I try to format the HDD (brand new) it gets stuck on 100% and doesn't move. I've let it sit for ~5 hours, and so far nothing.. I have the most updated firmware, 320gb notebook hard drives, and have done a thorough look through the service guide. So far nothing nothing has worked. I can't do a logical because this isn't complete, but it continually gets stuck on 100%.

      Some notes:

+ When I got the printers all of them are HDD locked, so no copy or printing (and there was no HDD to begin with).
+ When processing the format it will take its' sweet time, but will never finish or let me do anything on screen. Sound works, buttons don't.
+ I have 4 total printers to burn, so I am happy to try anything to try and save these guys.
+ I have done these steps: firmware, HDD format (Freeze) // HDD Format (Freeze) // Firmware (still HDD Locked - even though brand new) // Logical Format is unavailable unless HDD format is done first (I'm assuming)

Thank you all for your help, I am slowly getting better at these little guys, but boy do they want to make me pull my hair out... After this, I'm going to stick to KM production presses.

      Thanks again!

I usually check the HDDs with a PC and look at the S.M.A.R.T. status. If S.M.A.R.T. comes back ok and the PC can format it, I call it good enough to throw into a copier.

I find the lack of useful info from the copier screen is just not enough to diagnose the disk. PC utilities give a lot more useful output.

If I helped you out, please give me a thumbs up! It helps my reputation.

unless the drive was crap, i hook to a PC, remove all partitions, create a single partition but do not format it.
pop it in the copier and boot in to service mode and make sure its set to installed, sometimes there is a delay highlighting the switch, this is normal. ive seen it take 2 minutes to highlight and save.
then i do a logical format only and reboot.
worked every time unless the hdd was a problem like ticking or scraping noises.

anyhow, ive had all good outcome doing it that way.
good luck. make sure no bizhub secure is active although that usually just asks to format the drive again or provide a code. just go into admin in that case and the only option available will be to format or passphrase. just format and reboot.
its very rare id do a physical format from the copier menu.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
          The medication helps though...
