Konica c284e vs c280 color difference

    Hello,

We just replaced our old c280 with a refurbished c284e,the seller says that if we eant a better quality print we have to buy a new printer, but how is it possible that the old one is a lot better than the 284e,the black seems so washed.
On the left is the c284e and on the right c280.

the 284 looks like the driver is using process black without black overprint.
im sure in the driver settings this can be much improved upon as well as a fresh set of gradation adjustments.
the 280 print setting looks like pure black is used and possibly black overprint for even more richness.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
    The medication helps though...

I did a set of gradiation adjusments, will try with the ps driver since only that has the black overprint option available.
      Thanks!

Keep in mind you are dealing with "business" color. The only way to get better quality results from a Kon/Min is if you add the optional Fiery print controller.

Yes it's possible for a prior model to have better quality. But there are many other factors, aftermarket toners, life of consumables like Trans belt, Fuser, etc etc

The Kon/Min color quality has gotten worse over the years. Some of the best color I remember from Kon/Min was the old CF3102 model. Quality downhill ever since.....

you need just more "black magic" cards to improve the black

so ive been out of work 2 weeks short of a year but coming here and scratching my head for folks and helping the best way i can makes my 25 year career all worth it and looking forward to getting back at it after i have my neck surgery but in the meantime all the folks that expressed great thanks for my advice whether in PM or out here in the open forums i from the bottom of my heart really appreciate your kind words and keeping me thinking and sharp so i dont go stale and stay interested in this field and come back to work once surgery and physical therapy are done, hopefully early 2024.

The C284e should have a very similar print quality to the old C280 if not better.

But as the device is not new do you know the drum life or if the device has genuine toner installed?

The best way to approach this is first print off the gradation test patterns in service mode & see how they look, especially the back.

Also worth checking toner save is set to off.

                  To display: [Utility][User Settings][Printer Settings][Basic Settings][Toner Save]

Select this check box to reduce the printing density in order to reduce the amount of toner consumed.
                  [OFF] is specified by default.
