    Konica Minolta C227 Toner Carrier

    Good Day People.

I read through the service manual on Konica C227 and under toner supply I got to the replenishing and refining of the carrier. I would like to know if anyone could shed any light on the matter? Why does the black toner have toner and carrier and not the color toners? I could not find an explanation in the manual or might be missing it. Thanks in advance

H there my fellow South-African. The answer to this I would believe is related to application and cost in my opinion. All the "Image Unit(IU)" kind machines like the C451/C452/C754... are black priority machines meaning that they are expected to print a whole lot more black and white than color. The black drum on the C759 as an example is much larger than the color drums for that reason.

The C227/C287 is also made with the idea to enable the user to change out the units themselves to reduce the operating cost.
A C308 for instance the developer tanks needs to be replace by a technician.

To use developer replenishing there are some differences on the hopper like not using reed switches and magnets to check the toner level in the hopper, the developer will simply get stuck to the magnet and wear out the hopper parts sooner. The replenishing machines like say a C364e use normal photo interruptus outside of the hopper complicating things slightly. Next the developer tank needs to be able to discard worn out or over supplied developer so that needs to be included in the design and manufacturing. The waste box also needs to be able to receive the dumped developer.

This simple replenishing method increased the developer life from 300K to 600K. The B554e machine will do up to an past 2 million prints! That is only due to developer replenishing.

We did not even consider the C227/C287 for our contract customers due to high running cost.

I would like to get more insight into this if anybody can please add there opinion on this topic.

      Thanks So Much Allan

Come to think I also read the section on the Developer and it says that the color excess dev is returned back into the tank and reused for a next print cycle. I am asking because I have been introduced to Konica 5 months ago but I have to prove myself worthy of being there so I need to gain as much knowledge as I can. I am not looking at settings and service adjustments for now. I am rather going over theory of operation and taking it from scratch.

            Allen is 100% correct.

Other copier brands are also using the trickle feed method of extending the developer life. As the developer is being used over long periods of time, toner will impact on the surface which will reduce the amount of charge generated by the toner and developer friction and reduce the tribo-electric properties which in turn causes light prints.

If all else fails read the Service Manual!

If that fails, meet me at the pub and we will discuss it.

Thank you so much guys. I went through a few things at the moment I am doing 1st and second transfer I get a bit lost as I tend to question things I've read but that is just me searching for knowledge. I have not failed in repairing any machine yet irrespective the make and model I was surprised when one of the other technicians thought that the original was a copy after I have done a refurb on a Canon 45 series I often hear guys say that this and that machine is not nice machines but I think it's because they to focused on the work that has to be put in before touching the machine. I on the other hand just get going without second thought that way I don't lose focus
