    [Misc] C558 printing quality issues

I ran into a machine a few days ago that has some interesting issues that I am hopefull that someone can help point me in the right direction. The quality has become grainny and even has lines in the same direction as its traveling. Inspected the fuser and found the inner guards are burning away and found excessing paper dust which I am assuming contributed to the fuser damage. However replacing the fuser and even doing gradation test were unsucessful. At this point I am suspecting the laser lenses are dirty but the lines go through multiple colors. Prints on colored text seems unaffected. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Images on the left are from a print last month and the ones on the right are the current condition. Not much information to go on, but based on the samples, the problem seems to be with black. Start by cleaning the laser glass, though I'm not going to hold my breath with that resolving the issue. If I had to make an educated guess, the quality issues are due to a bad / worn out black drum. Color is suffering because the machine is unable to properly calibrate itself. Color calibration is based off of black, and since black is so poor, the colors will as well.

As for the toner sticking to the fuser exit, my best guess would be at some point there was either too much toner being applied to the paper, or since those are the prayer cards and are on a heavy stock paper, the customer has possibly been running them on the wrong paper type setting perhaps, which can lead to the toner getting deposited onto the exit area.

My Ricoh knowledge is slowly dwindling away at this point. Many things have been lost to time...

+1 on that. My bet it's not set to the correct media type, and it's just not fusing all the toner. Solid blacks have a lot more toner on them, consequently show poor fusing first. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.
