Kyocerta KM5050 scans only half the page - HELP!!!

Maybe you can help me. I just purchased a used Kyocera KM5050 unit. It prints well when on the network, but all scanned and copied items come out with the top half smudged, blurry, or blank, the bottom half of the page is clear. I have tried settings, changing orientation of paper, taking glass off and cleaning all scanner parts, bulb, mirrors. Nothing seems to help, but as a printer its perfect. Any ideas of what might be the problem? Do I need a new scanner bulb / detector?

Im a newbie, but pretty tech savy as i have an IT background.

an example would be nice to see. Could be an out of alignment optical section.

does it have the same symptom from scanning off the glass and document feeder? Or is it only showing through the document feeder?
It could be scanning position needs adjustment with sim 68 if it only shows in doc feeder.

Yes the problem is with both the flat bed scanner and the feeder.
Is this some setting such as an alignment? I did have to calibrate the touchscreen in the maintenance menu.
i cleaned this thing as much as possible, printing is great quality, but scan/copy still terrible

Totally agree, scanner section not aligned probably due improper transport/packaging. Check your mirrors for any kind of misplacement.

the document processor is probably reading the wrong paper size due to dust and such on the board under the side guide assy....

If you could attach an image showing us an example that would help greatly.

I would guess one of the mirrors on the #2 mirror base might be knocked out of position. Look at them closely.

Also, calibrating the touch screen might only be a temporary fix. they go bad. There is a repair posted a while ago discussing repair using Z Axis tape to correct that issue.

Check optics carriage you can see, each side on the rail has slider, those are deformed by age and they are getting pieces. you need slider scanner, I can give you part number if I am right.

You don't necessarily need the auto adjust charts. If we had some samples first we could give you a better direction to go.

I have been able to sight the lens through the two mirror bases and get a good idea if I have one that is perhaps out of alignment.

the touch screen wont calibrate any longer, i ordered a new one.

Either link to an FTP site, or crop your photos down to less than 1MB total size. =^..^=

here is a shot of what the copier is doing now, however the screen no longer responds to touch . I tried a 201 calibration but it does not respond to touch on part of the screen, I have ordered a new touch screen, do i also need the memory dimm?
