Re: C2790 - 3551ci
This is a firmware error code. I've got to step away from this machine for a couple of days. My frustration is getting the best of me and I don't want to make anymore stupid mistakes.Last edited by BillyCarpenter; 02-08-2021, 07:34 PM.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Re: C2790 - 3551ci
Reading through your post one thing that sticks out with me is you said you heard a clicking sound . I have had some 3550 with C2730 that when it made a clicking sound it was the transfer release motor on the right door. I know its not the code your getting but its easy enough to try another right door on it .Comment

Re: C2790 - 3551ci
This reminds me of a situation where I was working on a punch unit error on a KM-5052ci:
As part of my early first attempts, I tried uploading firmware. It went into the IH firmware error 0801, and would not come back to a "Ready" state. The machine always returned to the firmware update screen (with or without the USB stick) ... and if there was a stick with the firmware it always stalled right at the IH firmware EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE IH BOARD. It was stuck in some kind of a loop.
So I removed all the accessories, then reloaded firmware successfully, and it came to "Ready". Then one at a time I re-installed one accessory at a time, with a firmware upload. When I got to the punch, the firmware stalled again at IH firmware.
I then disconnected the punch, and successfully re-loaded firmware. I later on ended up replacing the punch motor and punch PWB. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

That's exactly what my machine is doing. Exactly. I'm gonna get back on this machine in a couple of days as I feel like I'm going backwards. Thanks for the information, bc.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Re: C2790 - 3551ci
I really don't know where to start on this other than to say this:
Lets start here: When I replaced the transfer unit connector (bent pin), I had to remove a lot of stuff and one of those things was the fuser drive motor. The motor is hidden behind a bunch of crap and the connector to the fuser drive motor had come partially off at some point during reassembly. So the firmware issue is solved.
Once the firmware was updated the machine booted up and is running fine now.
There's too much to go into but lets just say that all of the problems that I experienced were mistakes made by me. But I did learn a whole hell of a lot.
Thanks to all that helped me.Last edited by BillyCarpenter; 02-09-2021, 04:24 AM.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

I've been playing around with this Kyocera 3551ci and just out of curiosity. I wanted to see what would happen if I simulated a bad motor (doesn't matter which motor) by unplugging it and then trying to upgrade the firmware as my 1st fix. What happens is the firmware gets stuck in a loop exactly like blackcat describes. This is also what happened to me when I accidentally left the fuser motor unplugged.
Here's the point I want to make:
If you suspect that you have a bad motor or that a motor isn't working for ANY reason, I recommend not trying to update the firmware as your first option because it's gonna get stuck in a loop and you will not be able to access the test commands. Instead, I recommend running U030 as a first option and you can check every motor before trying to upgrade the firmware.
I hope that made some sense.
PS - I know that's kinda stating the obvious...but just saying.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Unplug the hard drive, the firmware is on the hard drive and it will keep retrying firmware.
