I had to replace the developer unit in the 406 and after the adjustments were run I set it to print 20 test pages and after 10 pages it stopped and said add black toner. The toner is not empty but I tried another toner tank and it says the same thing. It is in a permeant state of add black toner. Any ideas what I should check on this.

Have you checked to see if the toner motor is working and I'd also check to see if the toner path is blocked.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime. -

Check all your covers/switches are making & cycle power. Haven't seen it on this model, but definitely on others.Comment

Re: TASKalfa 406ci empty toner
I've seen this on other Kyoceras too. If the customer opens a door while the Add Toner is up, but doesn't close it all the way, it will still display Add Toner and won't clear, even after the toner is changed. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: TASKalfa 406ci empty toner
I had forgotten about this problem. I ran into the problem 1 time and it had me chasing my tail. I felt kinda dumb after I found out what the problem was. IMO, this is a design flaw.Last edited by BillyCarpenter; 10-01-2021, 01:23 AM.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Re: TASKalfa 406ci empty toner
I am working on a 508ci now that is doing the same thing on yellow and magenta. I have found that the auger that takes the toner from the toner cartridge to the developer unit is not turning. There are apparently 2 motors in the toner supply assembly. On my machine the one for yellow is not turning. I cannot see the one for the magenta. I have checked on the board and the motors get the signal to turn on, but they never come on. I have ordered the toner supply for it and should receive it soon. It looks like it is going to be an all day job to replace this, so I hope you find something easier on yours. I will let you know what happens with this one so maybe it will help someone in their diagnosis.Comment

Re: TASKalfa 406ci empty toner
Sounds like your developer unit is not turning, so it isn't adding the toner into the developer unit, thus causing the add toner message.
Check to see if the toner is backing up into the toner adding auger system behind the developer units. Easy way to check is if toner is piling and over flowing on top of the developer unit toner entry hole. If the developer unit is turning that hole will be clear, if not it will be full and overflowing with toner and backing up into the auger system, which will then pack the toner in the auger system and turn hard and start breaking or damaging gears inside and/or outside the auger system. That will be bad news.
I have heard that, if this is the case for you, that you may need to replace the developer unit again, but make sure you turn off AND UNPLUG THE MACHINE, then install the developer unit and reassemble the machine to run your set up sims.
I have also heard that you might luck out and not have to replace the developer unit with another new one if you remove all the dev. units and drum units and reassemble the machine and turn it on and let the machine code out from the missing units, then turnit off and unplug it and put em all back in and run set up sims again it might be tricked into thinking you put in a new black dev unit again.
Otherwise it may be a damaged auger system which is very very hard to replace and you will still need another new black dev unit too.
Hope this isn't the problem you have, but it could be. It happened to me.Comment

Re: TASKalfa 406ci empty toner
I got my 508 fixed. It turned out to be the toner supply assy. The auger in this unit was not turning. This is not a job you want to do in the customers office because the machine has to be almost completely disassembled. It took me about 10 hours to complete the job. I was able to remove the exit tray and the yellow toner cartridge and from there I could see that the auger was not turning. It turns out that the motors I spoke of above are vibration motors and have nothing to do with the auger turning even though they are a part of this unit. Hope this helps someone else.Comment

Would you mind posting your toner log? I'd like to see what it was reporting on the container. No C-codes?"Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn" - Benjamin Franklin
