Kyocera Taskalfa 5500i scanning patterns in dotted bars

Our Taskalfa 5500i copies patterns into documents, very visible on the "Internal Scalable and Bitmapped Fonts List".
It kind of looks like a camouflage pattern.

I tried cleaning the glass but it did not change the outcome

Poor quality samples.
But try different scan settings.

For example Set sharpness to "Sharpen" or "blur"

You cleaned the glass, but did you clean the optics under? Dirty optics (3 x mirrors)will certainly affect image quality. Just ask any tech that lived through the analog days.

Pixel overlap where scan pixel doesn’t align to printed pixel creating moire.

Scan at higher resolution and set Original Image to ‘Printed Original’.

Edit: OOPS, '0' Series didn't have Printed Original option. Only Text/Photo options.

Later generations added ASICs (Application-specific Integrated Controllers) for ISU fine image enhancement/processing so this gen is not going to achieve the result of current architecture.

Every time that you scan something, you lose a little bit of resolution.

The dot half-tone pattern on the font sheet is a perfect original image to see "moire". The scanner uses a filter to encode the original image. The scan filter, combined with the dot pattern of the print creates a clearly defined third pattern in the half-tones.

Congratulations on seeing it, however there isn't anything you can really do about it. =^..^=

Different scan settings worked, but it does not seem to save the settings and revert back to normal after copying.

I have tried copying the font list in a 45 degree angle and the image was clearer.
The effect is also much less pronounced when copying through the flat bed, so it does not seem to be a problem with dirty optics?

Is this just a result you can expect from older copiers? I'm still new to this.

As others said in this thread, this is because every time you scan you loose in quality.
And the scanner is virtually trying to enhance the image.

You can save scan settings to different Shortcuts.
