    Ecosys M3655idn missing OCR dictionary

    Good day

I have several Kyocera Ecosys M3655idn MFPs which have failed or corrupted SD cards that report the OCR dictionary is not available and thus can't scan to text searchable PDF which annoying. Having replaced or reformatted the SD cards from what I can tell there should be a OCR ZIP file that needs to be place on USB flash drive and then the OCR Dictionary Installation routine run from the device menu. The statement at the end of the install screen appears to be somewhat misleading in that if they are on there I can't track down the relevant files to stick them on flash drive.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or help me sort these.

    Thanks
    Chris

I believe it is in the firmware.

The OCR dictionary is part of the firmware. As far as I know, the update file available on the manufacturer's website does not install the dictionary, but only updates the one already installed in the printer. You need to install the firmware from USB. If you need firmware for the European version of the device, I can help.

ATM that would be really helpful if you could help, that will probably explain where we are having issues if that version doesn't include the OCR dictionary

Thank KYO_OEM , that's the screen I am stuck on above, the bit I am having issue with is tracking down the correct OCR Dictionary itself :-(

Ok having got a copy of the OCR dictionary and stuck the ZIP file on a flash drive and run it per the instructions via the System Menu it doesn't seem to actually want to install coming up "Not Completed" message when you try. The rest of the firmware loaded, I did wonder if the firmware was mismatched to the dictionary version "updated" the entire firmware for the device too. Any ideas what would likely cause that?

Success! Can't get that to load but tried it on another machine as a full reflash and it worked so I think the first one the SD card had a subtle issue as it won't actually do a full reformat in Windows even if the copier claimed it was formatted successfully. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for your help KYO_OEM and ATM

Update the firmware with the full version.
