Back in March I went out to a noise call on a 508ci. Its a loud almost machine gun type (gear?) snapping/clicking. After investigating a bit my associate and I found that vacuuming out the transfer belt cleaning system fixed it and we also found some of the toner in it was chunky if not rocky. We got the new one ordered and eventually installed. Recently (after 3 months) the sound has returned so we decided to bring it back to our shop and investigate the source of the issue since there is a pattern forming. We didn't notice any chunky/rockiness to the toner inside the belt this time. But I have noted on both visits that there is a decent amount of waste toner build up on top of the yellow dev where the waste toner dumps into the container. We have replaced the waste toner container on the first visit for this issue. Vacuuming the transfer belt again made the sound go away but we assume it will come back in a few months. So as of now we have opened it up and checked the gear/motor/assembly that drives the belt and also the gear that moves the waste toner in the belt. There isn't any obvious signs of wear or missing teeth and the belt drive assembly doesn't have any noise or issue when testing out of the machine. We are still digging into the machine and trying to make sure the toner supply isn't dumping too much into the transfer belt and clogging it up but we still haven't been able to pinpoint the source of the issue, especially since we don't have NSI parts nor another 508ci in the shop.
I called Tier 2 twice and they suggested checking for damage in the Transfer belt and also checking the Toner Supply Drive which is kind of what I already suggested to them.
Does any have any experience or suggestions about this issue?
There are no codes being thrown and we have noticed a slight oddity with the waste toner container(s) not behaving normally by either misreading or filling up quickly but have no real evidence of either and FW is up to date.
