    [Misc] M3655 unknown toner

    Howdy folks

Have a M3655 being temperamental with it's toner. We only use toner provided by Kyocera. No knock off stuff. Keeps showing up in KFS as unknown toner installed. Customer hits continue and the machine will function. We sent them another toner and she changed it and that one is saying unknown toner as well.

Would the drum cartridge do this? It has the little board on the left corner with 4 wires and 2 contacts that read the CRUM.

    Thanks!

I have a UTAX branded M2040DN doing exactly the same thing.

    Always genuine toner and parts.

So frustrating as it no longer reports toner levels in KFS. For the time being I have just sent an extra toner to the client and they email me when they swap. The device is over an hour away and my client is OK with this for now, so won't be doing a deep dive on it until I need to attend for a service call.

Sorry I have no further input, but I am interested in what others say on the matter.

First thing I would do - check with another drum unit.

Not surprised. We had 5526's doing the same thing for years. Got to the point where the fix (to boards and 2hr of labor) wasn't worth the problem for such a cheap machine.

Firmware update would probably help this issue.

Hi there, no need for a new drum unit. Seen this many many times. Check the 2 metal prongs on the left hand side of the drum unit, that read the chip on the toner. These pront almost always get bent from mashing a toner in and the prong cant touch the toner chip

We were in the area the other day and swapped the drum and now its detecting the toner fine. Ill take a peak to see if the contacts are bent on the old drum!

Machine now shows toner in KFS.

              Pins were bent!
