    [Misc] Kyocera 4551 Copying Issues

    Good Evening All,

I am having a couple of issues with a KYocera 4551 machine as follows and wanted to post here to see if anyone had any ideas on how to resolve them:

    1. The top half of the copies come out light when using the dual scan unit and when copying from the glass unit directly. For now I have increased the density but wanted to ask in case there is a better fix
    2. The copies are slightly bent and the edges are cut off.

I have tried to clean the glass but this has not helped. The above only happens when copying form the machine as prints come out completely fine.

I have attached samples below and any help would be much appreciated.

For starters the prints aren't that wonderful, but the copies are definitely worse. We could tell more if you made color prints of these pages then scanned them to the thread (choose the paper size to suit your region):

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thank you for the quick response. I have realised the print quality looks bad as I used the 4551 to scan the document to myself. I have taken a picture which hopefully shows how the document really looks (ignore the wavy lines they are not really present on the real document).

I have currently disabled on the machine as the client only wants Black and White copies/prints ot be made on this machine but can re-enable for testing purposes if needed

Was this machine moved or bumped? It looks like a scanner issue, like a mirror or mirror frame out of position ever so slightly, maybe one of the plastic sliders came dislodged from under one of the mirror frames, definitely in the scanning section IMO

The pixelization of the dot pattern seems to indicate Replicative Fading. (cOpY of a COpy of a COPY ... ad infinitim) Try using better quality original and when copying 'copies' set original type to 'Printed Original'

Adjust MM412 S-S density (assuming this is sideways feed which is not mentioned)

As mentioned by the illustrious and often correct BC, check sliders on underside of first mirror assembly for wear.

There is a bulletin (F048) for LSU seals for LSU fogging from dust intrusion on this 'Individual LSU layout' on the '0' and '1' series which is known to cause light image on 'paper end-machine rear side'

Next time post more relevant info like U89 halftone prints and scan/print volumes, last PM service count.

I can't take the credit this time, if it's true, but I'll accept the compliment in general. The other 'cat gets the credit.

I certainly can't tell anything from the images attached.

              Re: Kyocera 4551 Copying Issues

              easy first place to try:

-remove the scan glass with device power off. move mirror assembly toward middle for easier access, and inspect the 3 mirrors for dust. clean as necessary.
-inspect the underside of the glass to make sure that the white reference strip is clean.
-while you're in there, inspect the plastic slider guides mentioned by the others above.
-glean the glass both sides, and re-assemble.
-turn on the machine and watch the scanner carriage to see that it's finding it's home position and moving smoothly, also watch the lamp to make sure that it's illuminating evenly across it's length.
