In the last 3 weeks we have had customers (3 different ones) put the full used waste toner cartridges back into the machine. I don't need to tell you what it does to the unit. My question is how do you stop this from occurring? Clients have employee turn over and don't educate the new employees how to do this. Schools especially have this issue.

Re: Empty black toner carts for waste toner receptacle
They have to force a slide to the right (wrong?) position for it to go back in. Someone taught them to do that, or you just have a curious kitten working there. As mentioned, a sign is the only option, along with charging for the repairs since they have been warned not to do that. It's amazing how much training and enforcement occurs when the boss has to pay for doing it the wrong way.Comment

Re: Empty black toner carts for waste toner receptacle
We have this issue too. Usually what happens for us is the customer installs the new toner bottle where the waste toner is supposed to go. Like others have said, training is only good for as long as the trained employee is still there. We've considered making our own labels "Toner" and "Waste Toner" and putting them over their respective doors. To be honest, it's not really clear that there's a door to be opened where the toner is supposed to go, but the tiny door next to tray 1 is pretty visible as being something that can open. Another option is to just supply the customer with a dedicated waste toner bottle or in conjunction with the door labeling.Comment

Re: Empty black toner carts for waste toner receptacle
I think this point of "Why would the customer even start down this road" is relevant because Kyocera has shown it to them with the U159-Waste Box Message if you have that enabled.
It basically teaches them that the cartridges can be swapped, they just do it in the wrong direction with "User logic"
I would set U159 as:
Container Lock:EMPTY
Container Unlock Display:OFF
Waste Box Setting/Message:OFF
Then start supplying and charging them with new Grey WT Bottles and stop the whole re-using the black thing. It was a great idea until end-users got involved"Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn" - Benjamin Franklin

Re: Empty black toner carts for waste toner receptacle
every single one of our units has a printed label on the top of the toner area door instructing them to "use empty black toner as new waste container", and also a label "Waste" on the waste door. We have also resorted to pinning signage near certain problem devices, and our contract allows billing parts and labour for negligent usage of supply items. between getting a big bill, and the extra labels, waste contamination has been manageable in our fleet, and recurrences are extremely minimal.Comment

Re: Empty black toner carts for waste toner receptacle
Ongoing problem. We have labeled the waste door, and for some of the more problematic clients, we are just sending them grey waste bottles, as their high turnover and lack of training retention means forget EVERYTHING they were taught, including looking at the colorful poster above the machine that we spent months creating, showing how to manage the toner correctly. Anymore, we are turning on U206 (Coin Vend) and having them call in for service so we can get them to fix their boner.Comment

Many clients put the full waste toner back in the black toner box so next user comes along assumes its a new full black toner its not supposed to fit when they manage it.
