When do you use U140 (Developer Bias Adjustment)?

    Hello guys,

I have a question. When do you use the mode U140 on Kyocera machines? What exactly does it do and for what symptoms? Any info is much appreciated!!

Pretty much only when replacing a DV unit. Any unit comes with the sheet that tells you what codes to run when replacing them.
    Hope that helps !

We only use it for when installing of new developing units. Why do you ask? Hold on, I'm warming up my crystal ball....let me guess your CQ is light because of crappy aftermarket toners. Just a guess.

I heard from someone that they do this whenever they are getting crappy image quality on prints and copies. I am wondering why would they run this mode if it is only used when replacing Developer??

I think the idea is that the generic toner clumps, those clumps collecting under the doctor blade, then leaving voids in the image. It's no kind of long term solution. Only Genuine toner will permanently solve this issue.

The purpose of this simulation is to fill a new/empty developing unit with monocomponent toner from the toner bottle. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for the info. They can also clump up inside the waste toner box that has an auger that discharges toner into waste toner bottle and also in the transfer belt cleaning system right? we get a lot of service calls for black lines on prints due to build up hardened toner inside the cleaning system of the transfer belt where the auger sits.

True. Be sure to save up all the pennies that you're saving with the generic toner. You'll need a factor of 4x more to pay for the additional parts & service to try to make it work. =^..^=

That what my bosses have been going through. They are spending too much money on parts lately all because they don't want to spend extra money on OEM toners and us technicians have to work harder and more frequent visit to customers office than we should. I am starting to feel embarrassed whenever we have calls back and having to see the same customer repeatedly and deal with their funny facial expressions whenever they see us. I guess my boss is right, we are the face of the company LOL.

May be silly to you and others but I still asked my question so I can better myself as I am fairly new to the copier industry. By the way, I am using crappy toner because my boss says so. I have no control over this.

Confucius say " man who use crappy generic toners on Kyocera copiers is pennywise and dollar stupid. This man will not stay in business too long." I'm sorry to hear your boss' put you in that situation.

Welcome to the industry good start being curious keep it up. U140 machine is basically calibrating it's toner sensor so it knows what it's base level is and what it has to keep at. Genuine toner has a little bit of carrier in it so it's constantly topping up depleted carrier non genuine toner doesn't so eventually you'll have no carrier and just a Dev tank full of toner. When the Dev loses all its carrier it can think it doesn't have enough toner so it just pours it in trying to replace carrier it never gets from non OEM toner.

I used to work for a firm like yours honestly it's best not to think too much eventually when they see customers leaving and their bottom line disappearing then they may change. Unfortunately you won't find an easy fix in the service modes photocopiers are insanely complex and they are very fine tuned. My advice learn as much as you can and move on to another firm that uses intelligence to make money over cutting corners.

It's quite sad when you see dealers cutting corners as Kyocera if you're clever are really cheap to run. Get a 50 page box parts can last 500k plus on medium kinda volumes 25k a month. The machines themselves are insanely cheap to buy compared to the competition. Parts are expensive if comparing drum to drum but not when you realise they do 5x the life. Only way I've seen to reduce costs on these is to replace charge rollers and cleaning blades in the drum units, everything else is a waste if time.
