Anybody had the problem of the drum unit cleaning area breaking because the waste toner has gone rock solid?

Thankfully all under warranty or it would be very costly!

We've had this on units at a food manufacturing plant. Every so often they super heat the plant to kill anything, & once they didn't move the copier out. All toner in it became solid.
    Hope that helps !

I'd check that all your fans are operational, and the filters are clear. Is there anything unusual about the environment. For example is it jammed in a closet with the door closed, and no ventilation? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Blackcat totally agree with the fans etc as I thought that, but what got me was the hard toner in the magenta toner cartridge?

Been back to the m/c and fitted the drums and devs.

The m/c has done 24k on black and 23k on colour so its not a lot.

Nothing wrong with the machine so i can't give a difinitive answer on why the drums all got clogged up and broke.

The toner cartridges all had hard toner in them from the drum unit cleaning section so somewhere theres a build up of heat but i've not had that before on the front of the machine.

I dont think i've seen the last of this machine.

Has the firmware been updated? (main = 31, engine = 30) If not, and in a low toner density environment there won't be enough toner to lubricate the cleaning augers causing them to overheat and chunk up.

I just had a C4035E do this. The customer complained about a weird grinding noise that happened only when the machine was powered on. When I went there, I heard nothing and managed to print out status pages just fine. I started taking things apart and couldn't take out the yellow toner because the end of the waste auger had a hard toner blob all around it.

30 minutes later, I got it all apart and noticed that the waste auger gears on the back of the magenta drum unit were broken. There were some chunks of black toner around as well. I'll have a chance to inspect it more when I get the replacement drums in.

It didn't have the latest firmware, but I didn't see anything in the notes about low volume or coverage usage. This machine has 75k on it and they average 7k a month. The colors are 1.6-2.4%, but black is 5.4-6.6% coverage.

One thing I'm worrying about is a few months ago, a gear that drives the 4 toner's waste things was chattering. I would take a toner out and see that it was still moving the auger, just a bit slower than normal. We lubed a few points and haven't heard back, until the machine destroyed itself.

I faced this problem in a university. But reason was high temperature.

I believe that the drive for the WasteToner auger comes from a secondary feed roller on a movable jam access guide. It is possible to close the left door with this guide not engaged fully and therefore not supplying drive, then causing a backup, then coal. I've not looked into this and was just a brief mention from our rep.

If you take the drum cover off and check there is a small white clip on the end of the toner auger (left side looking from the front) that falls off and then the gear does not engage properly. This will cause noise and toner not being augered to the waste bottles, hence backing up in the drum units causing coal. Have seen it many times.
