I have a 6002i that when scanning and copying thru the ADF, the images are have background. When copying or scanning off the glass, the images are fine. I have included samples.
I deep cleaned the optics (even though I know that when digital optics get dirty, they generally go light). I checked U034; LSU Out Left, mostly to get an original with the center line on it for running thru the ADF. I noticed all the drawers were not centered. I always center the drawers before I let a machine go out into the field. All the drawers were off, not by a little, but quite a bit. I reentered all the drawers (including duplexing) .
I then went to U072 to check the original center. When I made a test copy (using the centered print out from U034) the copy was not centered nor was there any background. I went thru the process of centering the the ADF (including duplexing).
When I went got out service mode, scanning and copying thru the ADF was fine. I tested the machine, then had the customer test the machine. While the customer was scanning, the background came back when running documents thru the ADF, but not off the glass.
I kicked the machine when the customer stepped away, but there was no change.
Just for the hell of it, I updated the firmware. I say just for hell of it because the lasted firmware, as I understand it, only addresses some network vulnerability issues.
I went back into U072 and made a test copy and it was clear. I changed the value by one digit and saved and tested it and the copy was still clear. Got out of service mode and made test copies and scans and they were clear.
It was well after 5:00PM and the customer wanted to leave. I got a call from the customer this morning and the background has come back.
The machine only uses OEM toner and it has just a little less 65K total on it.
I don't think its the CCD or why would off the glass be fine? I don't think it's the ADF (DP-7110) mostly because its only pulling the document past the slit glass. I would hate that it would be the main PCB, but as I understand it these are the only three places that would affect the image on a scan or copy.
Thanks in advance, guys. Any insights would be helpful.
