ECOSYS M6235cidn - Prevent selected network users from printing on my printer

    Hi everyone

So, I have this weird problem. I work as a consultant in office, where I use my private printer Kyocera Ecosys M6235cidn. Printer is network connected, so other members of the office can use it as well in case main office printer SHARP is down. Sometimes when there is a problem with internet in the building, our manager allows other offices on our floor to connect to our WiFi (we use 5G router). While connected to our WiFi, other offices use my printer and send prints to it. Can I block incoming connections to my printer from their computers without hurting my office? I know I can set up PIN, etc but this needs to be done in a foolproof way, because others in my office aren't as tech savvy as I am. Any ideas?

Yes, simply set up print authentication so only users with a pin can print.

just as stated as above. i would recommend you use 2 pins. one for yourself and one for others. unless you want to give each person their own pin. then you would be able to see who is printing how much per pin. done in the print driver and the copier.

I know there is possibility to lock printing with PIN, but how does it work with printing from mobile devices, e.g. iPad, iPhone, etc? Configuring driver on PC won't be a problem, but there is too many different devices to be considered.

          What about mobile devices?

First change the IP address of your printer, set it static IP. Disable any WSD discovery/functions, bonjour as well - used for AirPrint MAC's/iPhones, Mopria etc. You want your printer not broadcasting itself on the network, those who knows the new IP can install it manually and use it.

Re: ECOSYS M6235cidn - Prevent selected network users from printing on my printer

Many of my customers approach it this way (pin#'s arbitrarily chosen):

pin 12345 for local monochrome printing only
pin 23456 for local color printing
pin 34567 for guest monochrome printing
pin 45678 for guest color printing

If you observe that any of these privileges are being abused, you can easily change that one pin #, and inform (some) of the users of the newly changed number. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thank You for all answers. I'll check tomorrow what devices are using my printer and see which solution fits best.

Re: ECOSYS M6235cidn - Prevent selected network users from printing on my printer

So, it turned out that blocking things on the printer side would cause too much pain for mobile devices in our office, that's why we decided to create guest network for others, which is isolated from our network. No more free printer sharing (OEM toners are way too expensive for that) and some security was added

Thank You all for the info You provided!
