[Misc] Utax Triumph Adler 3206ci Bypass tray Issue

Hello all, once again I returned here for advice. One of the nearby business recently called in about their 3206ci having issues copying portrait A4s after a curious new employee opened and closed the bypass tray. I inspected the bypass tray and it does indeed look unused, and is not damaged.

    Problem being:
It is not possible to copy (automatically) portrait A4s from the doc feeder or platen from the 1st tray which houses A4 paper, as machine will state "check paper size" and select the bypass tray even if its closed, user has to manually select the 1st tray. Strange enough if it's loaded in portrait and you want to copy from the platen or doc feeder in portrait A4 it will still select the bypass tray which is closed

    To sum it up:
A4 landscape on platen = Machine selects closed bypass citing "check paper size" when portrait A4 paper is loaded in tray 1
A4 portrait on platen = Machine selects closed bypass citing "check paper size" when portrait A4 is loaded in tray 1

As mentioned previously on my other postswe work on Minolta in the majority so each time we have an odd quest I come here looking for a possible answer. I know Minoltas will select the tray you have the specific paper loaded and do it from there not caring if paper is loaded opposite way to which you have it on the doc feeder or platen, as long as it's same size they don't care.

Im not sure if it could be the tray closed sensor or firmware starting to age or even perhaps, those machines do it that way and the new guy was never told they do so nor was I. Either way I'm looking for possible answers here, thanks for help as always.

Certain things have to match for auto paper select to work:

    * The paper tray must properly identify and display the A4 paper size, plain media type, and must be included in auto paper select.
    * When using the document feeder, the document feeder must properly identify and display A4 original size.
    * When using the copyboard glass, the document feeder must be closed and the reed switch must be made to indicate the DF is closed, before size detection occurs.

If one of these things isn't happening, it will prompt the enduser to load paper to the bypass. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

well if auto-size isn't working, have you tried the simple process of changing the paper settings under each tray or in the bypass? have you checked any of the settings???

My first thoughts on this is regarding the tray sizing. Has the tray one been manually set to A4?
Try setting it back to Auto detect and confirm it registers as A4.
Setting the trays manually has some unexpected consequences such as not being able to be used as a fax source.

I set it manually to A4 and still same thing, if it's landscape and you copy landscape it's fine, if you place it in portrait and the paper is loaded in landscape in the tray it will not automatically select it.

IF I select to copy on A4 in portrait form and the paper in the tray is loaded in landscape then it will.. What I can only call, it attempts to fit an A4 portrate sheet onto a landscape sheet in a portrait form.
Confusing right?, it doesn't automatically rotate it to fit the paper. This further leads me to believe either there is something wrong with it or those models do it because somebody turned off a setting somewhere.
I attach the image for better reference, this is the result when you when you manually select the A4 tray.20231120_215921.jpg
